we are the humans of our almost 16 yr. old bichon frise, silky (female) -- we lost her mate, comet in sept. he was 15-1/2 when he died. our son just lost his chesapeake bay retriever who was 12 ! incredible age for that sized dog! but it brings to mind how terribly bittersweet it is to lose these dear friends, and yet every day I see silky who is still quite active, but very hard of hearing, eyesight a little dimmer, and has lost many teeth -- just like humans! -- it makes me so very thankful to have all these great years with her.
