It is possible to root Kerri Hoya from leaves ? If so what is the best way to get them root . I am pretty new to hoyas , and I can use all the help I can get.
TIA, Patti
Kerri Hoya Question.
The consensus is yes, it is possible. I, myself am doing it with some success. In July or August I bought two nearly dead leaves from Walmart that had been started in earth, and then closed up in a box - ie., not watered. (I justified the $9 expense because its pot was lovely.) I took them out of the pot and they had roots. I stuck them back into well draining potting soil, and they're happy and healthy looking now. I let them nearly dry out between waterings. I think to start them you might want to keep them a little moister to begin with. It will take a year or more to see any growth I'm told. Good luck Patti

Why don't you just come over to my house and I will divide my huge H. kerrii and give you a chunk of it?
Susan
Oh, O.K. be right over!!!!
I wish I could give some suggestions but I didn't have much luck with mine. I don't think it's very easy. I bought a variegated H. kerrii cutting. I tried to root it in a bag. The leaves fell off so I put them in soil. The stem started rotting so I put it in the pot with the leaves. They all looked good for a few days then they all shrivelled up and died.

Sandy, I don't have much luck with this one either. Seems like it would get a new leave and two would fall off. Of course that is when I was following the "let it dry out befor you water it" theory.. I may have to try it again.

Letting it dry out, as you've found out, is not good for any hoya. But I find with Kerrii, that letting it get dry on the top of the soil works best for it - for me anyway. The rooted leaves I have are variegated, my "whole" Kerrii is not, and I treat them the same. My regular Kerrii is growing nicely even now. I'm patient enough to wait a year or two for growth on the variegated leaves, to see if the experiment works for me.
Hi Susan,
I would love to have a cutting your Kerri hoya. I would love trade something for it. PLMK. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks everyone for your help I really appreciate it. : 0)

It's good to know I'm not the only one to have trouble. :-)
Just so everyone doesn't think I'm a total failure....the H. australis cutting that I got at the same time has a shoot growing that's a good quarter of an inch long. Yippee!! Now don't anyone tell me that it's an easy one to grow. lol
Sandy
H. kerrii is fussy. Too much water = rot. Not enough water = hissy fits.....and so it goes. And they are s.l.o.w. I have a green one growing up a tree, about to eat Cleveland...but the variegated one is stuck on the first floor and the elevator doesn't work. Too many great hoyas to grow without beating that one up.... I know some have wonderful luck with it...maybe it's because it's fussy and I am not.... Oh well. Would love to hear from someone who grows it easily....

Is the reverse variegated Hoya kerri just as difficult?
I had a nice green one for a year and a half, all of the sudden it just up and dies, too much water. Now I have a variegated one, it started as three nice plants, now it is down to one. I pretty much neglect it. It's not dead, but it's not really doing anything. I barely water it. As long as it's alive, I figure I'm doing something right. Lol!

It sounds like the clay pots are a good idea Awanda. If I ever get another one I'll have to remember that. It also sounds like the green ones are easier to grow so it would be best to try one of those first.
Sandy
The plain green H. kerrii blooms for me every year. I don't water it heavily. Usually it has to be very dry before I water it, or it gets rain water. I murdered a very expensive reverse variegated two winters ago by over watering and it being in a too deep pot. The regular variegated produced two new leaves during the last growing season,
very slow and lazy.
Rose318 you have d-mail.
Thank you for the info Awanda and Nightbloomer. :)
