I had 3 African Violets that I purchased from Home Depot and yesterday my Mother In Law brought me a new one from her grocery store of all places. It's really pretty. The day before a friend brought me a Hoya as a gift. The Hoya has some form of mealie bug. I had the Hoya smashed in by my African Violets behind my kitchen sink for a few hours before I potted it and moved it in with other plants of mine. I think I know how to treat my other plants which are Orchids and Nepenthes but the African Violets I would like a little advice on. My thoughts are to spray them with Neem just in case any mealies bailed ship from the Hoya and then follow up with a soil drench of wettable Orthene to provide some protection for the next month or so. What do you African Violet experts think?
Quick question on mealie bugs

Neem is fine - just make sure the crown is dry afterwards. I haven't tried Orthene on them but would think it would be ok - I've used it on the orchids but for the AVs I usually use Marathon or Bayer Advanced's rose and something-or-other spray (but I use the spray as a soil drench). The active ingredient of both is imidacloprid - a systemic that is easier on humans than Orthene and an excellent control for mealies.
