Your third photo looks a bit like carribean queen
You're killing me.....LOL
Looks like b. 'persian brocade' is the first one in a hanging basket http://absastro.tripod.com/hkey/hpicrhizom_lz/PersianBrocade.jpg
Second looks like my b. theimei (which was labeled b. carolineafolia and I believe it is a mistake as I have b. carolinieafolia and they look nothing alike)
Don't know the third (cane) but the fourth looks like my b. coccinea. Big 12.5" long leaves on mine.
keep em' coming, hugs to Luna (who's doing a peek-a-boo in the last image)
How far is PHOE from you? i'll be in Miami for the Begonia Society National Convention in March. Would love to hook up if you are near Miami. DH says he wants to go, but I know it will be like watching paint dry for him.
A trip to PHOE would likely give me a heart attack or at the very least I'd wet my pants! Begonias, Hoya, tropicals... I wouldn't know what to do. And we're supposed to visit PHOE while we're doing the convention thing. (Key West too!! Woo hoo!)
i live in miami. biscayne park is just a small village located in miami. more than likely i will be going to the convention as well. hopefully we can get together. if you have time you are welcome to come on over. are you staying at the sheraton mini mart?
Excuse me....question here.....what is PHOE?? and what about this Begonia Party in March?
Hap
Hi
Your 4th one down the one in the crate like container looks like my EYE Lash Begonia I bought on Ebay a couple years ago. All your plants are beautiful. Allison
hi happy,
palm hammock orchid estate. march 1-5th there is the american begonia society national convention in miami. sounds like a good galloping gardener party to me.
i am going to palm hammock orchid estate on mon. would you like to join happy
Where is it? Sounds possible....
Thanks for the invite candela, will do! I'll need someone with me at the convention to help me with some restraint when it comes to buying begonias. Still have to get all of them home once bought. i guess I can ship them all!
I read where PHOE did have some greenhouse damage during Wilma. I thought for sure they would postpone or cancel but it sounds like it's all on.
And yes, I'll be staying at the sheriton mart.
(according to Tim)
Wilma has left us with damage that looks like the pictures we have as mementos from Andrew. We have lost 4 metal greenhouse structures and the covers of all the rest. All the plants look like they were in a food processor then broiled. Our generator gave up after Rita and we are waiting for the repair man.
All the crews were in the last few days. We have run 3 chainsaws steady since the storm.
Other than minor roof damage the buildings are OK.
Cash flow will be our major challenge in the coming weeks. We are at the beginning of the recovery and the real fun stuff is yet to come.
An email from Tim (PHOE?) says
The convention planning is running a little behind, HOWEVER we will have the convention packets out soon.
The tours are looking really good. Kahouly glass will be at Fairchild Garden. The Miami International Orchid Show is on.The Palm Beach Garden show is on.The Miami Beach conservatory,Pinecrest Gardens and of course PHOE.
There will be a Judging school. We have a stella line up ofspeakers and the plants are still lookig good! Hope to see all there. Tim Anderson Miami
now if you aren't familiar with Kahouly (which I think is spelled wrong and should be Chihuly?) take a look here http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/556677/
AMAZING artist. That will be a real highlight to this trip since I've worked making glass beads recently.
In addition, extra packages can be booked
"• 1 day pre-convention tour to Key West • ½ day City of Miami Tour • ½ day Begonia Growers/Begonia Home & Gardens • ½ day at Fairchild Gardens • ½ day at the Miami Intl. Orchid Show & Miami Beach Botanical Gardens • Evening Events: CocoWalk, Lincoln Road, Bayside • Post-convention options for 4 to 7 night Caribbean cruises"
personally, I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!
it is down in kendall i think. south of miami. i have directions. i want to go check this place out and find out more about the show in march. what about val, art, anyone else maybe?
cass
BC, that sure is sad news about their greenhouses. It's sorta the way things are down here. I also have cut back, pruned, hacked, pampered my little ones only to see them frying.
This all happens in March? WOW....will have to mark my calendar...
Hap
Cass,
Then I should go alone down 75 and meet you there? I live in Sunrise, near the Sawgrass, 595, 75 area. Wait, I will check Mapquest....
I just remembered.....I have Molly coming here Monday.....have to do it again another day. March for our traveling gardeners sounds great. Art is gone for a week and Molly leaves on Weds for the North...(hanging my head in sorrow) Val is also gone. Just us chickens left. LOL

Hey everyone, just returned from Florida and reading about everyone visiting PHOE - We just returned fom our visit there - OMG!!! My husband walked in ahead of us and came right back out before we got through the door and said "We are in TROUBLE!!" :) (He was heading for the van to retrieve a large box we had to hold plants.) Needless to say, one box wasn't enough! I took some photos at the last minute as we were checking out with our purchases and will post them as soon as I get organized. Although it was obvious there was some hurricane damage, fortunately for them it appeared they got through the storms with only moderate damage. Our only complaint was the selection of Episcias and Orchids were limited because their suppliers in Homestead, FL were hit severely by the hurricanes. But, OMG, I have never seen so many Begonias in one place, it was mind boggling!!! Our van was already stuffed with plant materials from other nurseries we visited from Gainesville to Apopka to Sarasota to Naples and finally over to PHOE in Miami. Hopefully I'll get our photos posted within the next couple of days.
Lali, you're not going to believe all the goodies you're going to see - better plan on taking out a small loan before you go!
I can't wait for your photos. I'm quite certain that I'll faint when I go in person. Nothing like that around here.
Hap, Lali, Cass, Allison,
I emphatically agree with Deb! PHOE is a must see for all begonia lovers. My lovely wife, Nancy and I stopped there in January and we were amazed from the moment we stepped out of the car. The parking lot alone is worth the trip. Here's a few pics.
Chris
1. Gloxinia sylvatica used as a bedding plant.
Poor Nancy! I bet she thought she was going to be on vacation. LOL
priceless. that last picture is great. i have gotten that look form my husband before. that is why i am going by my self tommorrow. i had better get there when they open and bring the truck.
cass
