Take a plant to work day

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

I mentioned in Tropicman's GH thread that I winter some plants at work.
Not having a basement, crawl space or heated garage I needed storage space.

Well we have a 50,000 sq. ft. building w/ 40,000 of it mildly heated warehouse at work so.....here's the Musa.
Sorry about the quality.
Hard space to shoot in and the plants haven't been trimmed back yet.

The owners are friends of mine and pretty much let us decorate however we like so.....
I have been putting plants in the showroom for a few years now.

Here's Elettaria cardamomum.
The pan underneath is 18" x 26".

The link is it last Fall.

The palms did horribly last year.
Browning and dying by inches.
After a search I realized WHAT palms they were.

I put them in water and they perked right up.

Succulents are now doing the heat duct area.
These haven't been watered in a month.
We had a very wet Fall and they were pretty pumped up.

All the windows here in the shots are South facing.

I really hated to see my Xanthosoma sagittifolium go dormant this year.
I brought it into the entryway as an experiment.
It's basically a South and West facing GH.
Under it are pots of 'Big Dipper' pups and Oxalis regnellii atropurpurea.
A combo I played w/ this Summer to great success.
So far..........

Nice plants!
And a nice arrangement. It's kind of your bosses to let you bring them to work.

Some people really don't like plants....I've even heard some say a lot of plants in an office makes the office look 'hippy'.....can you believe that!? I say.....'whatever'!

I've filled up my office with plants......if something doesn't do well at home (not enough light or too warm at night) or the plant has just grown too large......I bring them here.....there are a couple of BIG bright windows and every plant I've brought here really thrives.

Makes the place look great and gives your babies a warm winter home. Great setup.

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

Nothing quite like working in a winter Conservatory. And more cost-effective than the one I want to build. Way to go!

One of the other benifits is we have gained 100' x 4' of flower bed.
The owners love the EE's.
My boss especially loves the Big Dippers.
We have gotten permission to go TROPICAL w/ the beds out front and on the east side.
Full Sun beds in front. Dawn till noon on the East side.

We did a Woodland bed right outside the entry a few years ago.
It's done very well.
The property is 17 acres w/ two ponds that have been developed over the last 20 years.
I'm trying to get them to let us do some pond work also.
Fert run-off from the lawn is choking it in algae.
I'd love to get some Lotus and WLs in the mix.
Burn off some of that Nitrogen.

What a lucky duck you are Ric! You get to go to work and still enjoy your plants.
