Mature plants

Out of curiousity how long can the vines of the smaller leafed Hoyas (ie.bella, curtisii and serpens) get?

I'd love to see overall pictures of the mature plants. :)

bump :)

went and measured my bella, she is 21 inches long. I don't have any other small ones, well lacunosa and my longest plant is a little over 30 inches. My sister has serpens, I'd quess if you straightened it out it would be about 10-12 inches. Seems to me I have seen a really super long lacunosa, maybe it was bella, it was about 3 foot long. I have never really read any where how long they get, so this should be interesting.

Thanks Tami :)....I've got a very small bella and serpens right now and am also very curious. After looking at the members pics of the large leafed hoyas I started to wonder what the little ones were capable of.

OK...this first one is H. curtisii. The growth is like a big ball, and the longer vines tend to want to root under the pot making it really a ball of hoya. I pull them down so they hang. The top has vines growing across the top (looks like the type of combing a bald person does to cover up the baldness). They bloom all over. This one is planted in a 10" pot. Edited to say that they will grow up walls, metal, trees....ANYTHING!!!

Here is H. serpens...it grows the same as H. curtisii. The vines hang straight down, but only because it isn't next to anything to climb up!!! This is in a 5" pot.

This H. bella is about 4 years old...about 3' in width and 4+' long. I didn't crop out the pot on the left to give some kind of scale....she is in a 12' pot (maybe 14"?). Note in the lower right hand corner there is a H. curtisii growing up the tree. I had an old pot of it that looked really raggy so I put it next to the tree....

Lilypon...these 3 have never been cut...and just grew like that. As always, you can prune to shape and they don't have to have their own way!!! Dicipline! Carol

Wow Wow Wow.... The bella is a beauty..

Ü Thank you Carol they look awesome! How old are your curtisii and serpens?

I noticed my bella has put on quite a growth spurt lately so now I'm more prepared for the room it will need. :)

WOW!!! That is a glorious bella!!!

Lessee...H. serpens is 2 years old and H. curtisii about 3. Actually I rescued H. curtisii from a nursery here...it was grown into a ball, dried out and in sad shape. I trimmed it WAY back and let it grow anew. I guess it is about 4 counting all that. They are not FAST growers!!!

On your bella...hang it high so you can look under it to see the blossoms. Will send photos when it is blooming....I like to lie under it and watch the clouds of blooms....

Will do....that is one amazing plant! :)

Now I just have to keep my serpens happy so it will *eventually* look like your beauty. ;)

So how do you keep yours (the above three) happy???

They all hang in the shade (outdoors) with bright indirect light. Since the H. curtisii and the H. serpens have alot of growth covering the pot...they don't get the rain/water more 'open' growing plants get...but I water when I feel dry on the top. You dn't want to over water them or they will rot. I foliar feed with DynaGrow and sometimes Messenger (when I remember, have the stuff, have the time etc.) and I topdress with 14-14-14 slow release. H. bella gets lots of water and ALL are very crowded in their pots!!!

Hoyas like H. curtisii and H. serpens which have such heavy growth on top .... shade the soil and they don't use up the water as quickly and it doesnt evaporate....H. bella is more open and she takes all the rain and wants MORE! The variegated bella I keep drier.

Thank you for the pictures and information Carol. I really appreciate the time you've put into this. :)
