Have a zillion fall tomatoes here, hoping we don't get a freeze because its about the best fall crop I've ever seen. Got nipped by a light frost and now the cukes are now history. Fall green beans are flowering am crossing my fingers on them because the tops also got nipped. Early broccoli should be starting to head up anytime now. Second planting is still small. Have lettuces: Buttercrunch, Romaine Verte Mar, Green Ice, Red Sails, and Great Lakes in various sizes (I sow some every week or two). I just planted 2 varieties of Spinich but they haven't germinated yet. Have been planting garlic as fast as I can clear out space for it. Plan to plant some carrots tomorrow or Friday (running rather late with those). Want to plant some really early peas (usually plant them on Martin Luther King Day--who knows why--I just got in the habit of it because I'm off from work that day and they have always done well planted then). That about does it here from Houston! What's growing in your winter veggie garden?
Anyone got a winter veggie garden?
I have no winter veggies, but I am most impressed with what you're growing. Good for you!
The only vegetables I have planted right now, are Elephant garlic and curly Kale.
I have reduced my vegetable garden space to about one tenth of the original, and given the rest of it to native plants and wildflowers.
I used to be a regular city farmer 25 years ago. I grew all of our vegetables including white and sweet potatoes, strawberries, rasperries, even soybeans.
It was all done organically in raised beds with companion planting. It was a wonderful thing, and I really recommend it.
There is a tremendous satisfaction in eating and serving food that you have brought to fruition.
I feel bad saying that I grew it, because I know that God created it, and nature had a big part in it, my part was small in comparison, but it was done with much love and appreciation.
So garden on my dear, and may your family appreciate the love and effort that went into that food you bring to the table.
Josephine.
