Our Disaterous Tuesday

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

Yesterday....was totally miserable. I was greeted by water flowing from one gutter over the driveway to the other gutter. One manger full of water up to the wall. Stupid cow stuck her head in the open space where the water cup is and lunged to get up and broke it off at the top of the pipe where the union is made onto the waterline. (she is in a tie stall). The pumphouse was full of water too, so that meant that the manure pump was submerged. Not good. Took Spouse 2 hours to get that all bailed out and into the pump hopper so it could run out into the pit. I am smart, when I shut the pump off every morning I make sure that the ram is retracted all the way back, so it isn't blocking the pipe just in case something like this happens and it can run itself out if water gets in there. That is all well and good if it is that gutter that fills up. However, it was the other gutter that had the most water in it and it ran out the return side of the chute, which is why the pump pit was full. What a freekin' mess. Oh, I neglected to mention that there was a guy coming at noon to groove the barnyard. AND......we had a funeral visitation to attend 40 miles from here, and pick up the MIL to take her with us. It was for our neice's husband. He keeled over last Wed. from a heart attack. He was 62. The niece is 53; it was a 2nd marriage for both of them. He had 2 kids from the first marriage, niece didn't have any, they had none together. He was cremated, so he was there in a nice little gold box with his name on it. She had a really nice display of pix and there were alot of flowers. In what I thought was a very classy move, his ex-wife called Donna and asked if it would upset her if she came to the memorial service. In an equally classy move, Donna told her no, "because you were a part of his life, after all....." She seemed to be dealing with it very well, but I know it will be difficult for her now when everything is all overwith. I know that she will be fine in the long run, tho, it will just take time, like it would for anyone else in that situation.

Well, I need to get my sorry butt moving. I have some bills that I need send out checks for today, since we won't be back till Dec. 1st and want to get everything caught up that I can so the checks will be back in the next bank statement for the accountant when she does November's books. We have a tax estimate on Dec. 20th, and I want as little as possible in the way of things I have to account for at that time, makes the estimate so much more accurate. Does anyone else do a Dec. tax estimate?

I am pretty well packed to go, just need to re-arrange some things. I am taking my fancy-schmancy camera, and I want to take it in it's bag for better protection. I think I will have to put my purse in my carry-on, since the bag is rather cumbersome and doesn't leave any room for anything else in the carryon bag. Guess the camera bag will be my purse, then. :>) I have ample reading material. One book I got is "The Chronicals of Narnia". Has anyone read it? It's a pretty thick tome, will keep me occupied for a couple of days, at least. I hope it is better than the King Arthur stuff I was reading last year. I can't even remember the name of it. Maid of the MIst, or something like that. There was a movie made of it, I didn't go to see it. If it wasn't any better than the book, it would have been a waste of money.

Need to think about lunch too.......guess it will be sauteed cod, steamed broccoli, and a baked potato. I will forego the spud and let Spouse have it.

I guess that is all more than you wanted to know this morning, isn't it??? :>)
