My poor Taffy

Paducah, KY

Hi folks. I had a HORRIBLE experience last Tuesday. I live on a 7 acre wooded lot about 1/2 mile from a small road. DH and I were out in the yard with our 5 babies, and a man who was lost came down our driveway, pretty fast. Now we usually know when people are coming, and Taffy has been professionally trained to return to us, BUT this person on her turf with her whole family was just too much, and she ran for the truck in spite of my and DH's frantic calls. The truck hit her, and pinned her back legs under the wheel. We got her to the vet , and she spent a week there. No broken bones, but tendons blown and one leg was de-gloved. (Skinned) That was a new term for me. Her kidneys were bruised, and she took 12 bags of IV fluid. Now having said all that. She is home and looks really thin. She is a Shepard mix, and the vet told us not to give her much protein, because of the strain on her kidneys. She said to give veggies and rice. I got several cans of the good veg-all with no potatoes, and some of the Iams gravy in the bottle to top it off. Guess who wants meat and nothing else. I got NOTHING down her this morning, so I gave her some chicken breast. A no no. I wanted her to keep her pills down. She also seems starved for water, and I am afraid of the amounts she drinks, because of the bloat risk, but her kidneys need to be flushed. I am going to ask Janet930 to post some pics (I can't) She is only 4 years old, and till now the alpha dog in the group. I have to be very careful with everyone else after her "top spot" Does anyone have any low protein ideas for a very picky dog?
