hubby and I have a extra 20x10 hoop frame and shade cloth
and plastic,Now what i am wondering is when it gets so
hot in august that the old garden starts looking a little
to hot!Why could we not put hoop and shade cloth over garden and keeping planting last tomatoes and vegs.and
and when it starts cooling down here and starts turning
and little nippy we could put our 6 mm plastic on and
run my 110 heater that is about 10 a month until nov, or dec, and enjoy tomatoes at thanks giving. Is it possible ???
we are planting things that are late in between 10x20
so we can just build it right over garden,it takes about 2 hrs to put together.
cover fall garden so I can eat tomatoes for thanksgiving
That sounds like a great idea to me and I don't see why it wouldn't work. Did you know you can also pull your tomatoes up and hang the plant upside down in garage or basement and the tomatoes will ripen like that. Last year I was in Alabama taking care of my Mom after surgery at the end of the season and didn't get to pull them. Lost buckets of tomatoes. Good luck.

Hey {{{Nana}}}}...
It's gonna work just great! Mine do well into the fall, and all I do is cover them with white sheets to keep them from burning up in late summer, and the frost from getting to them in the fall.

If you are using plants that were planted in May thru July there should be few problems but if you start plants now you proabably won't get fruits because there won't be enough light. MNaters need about 14 hours of daylight to set fruit and most of the US gets below 12 hours come Fall. You can remedy this if you want to buy some Sodium Halide lights which cost $350 to $600 apiece.
After October all you will be doing is keeping plants alive but they will not be producing any new fruits. If you can keep them alive all winter you should get fruit by late May.
