I know this is not a forum about seed companies but I couldn't find another appropriate place to post this. I was going to check Garden Watchdog for Burpee and they're not listed. Is Burpee out of business?
CLOSED: Burpee......?
I think they are.....at least the big chain stores stopped carrying them 2 years ago.
I Googled them and they are still in business but I am surprised that Garden Watchdog has no feedback about them.
Burpee is definaltly not out of buisness-- I still order some things from them. They also still supply the seeds for alot of chain stores such as Walmart (their 97 cent seeds are burpee). The are based not to far away from me here in PA and you can actually visit thier test gardesns and purchase plants there (I have yet to do that- next year!)

the scoop on Burpee
echoes, I entered Burpee in the Garden Watchdog and got nothing. Wonder what I did wrong?
I have seen better ratings, that's for sure. I had no idea they were associated with Heronswood in Washington which has much better ratings. Thanks folks for your help.
I found it through Google this time. Didn't search in the Watchdog. I sometimes have trouble with it too. Glad if it could help you.
Thanks.
You can find Burpee here:

I went to Garden Watchdog, went to the Alphabet listed below the Top 20 and the most recent feedback and clicked on "B". All vendors are listed in alphabetical order and Burpee was there. I've found alot of interesting companies just cruising the lists at random:)
WalMart still carries Burpee seeds in the spring. They get recalled in mid to late June after it gets warm. I still get a free catalog in late Winter or early Spring.
I have similar cucumbers and they are fantastic!
cucumbers? what cucumbers? cukes always get my attention... but I don't see any others mentioned on this thread...
I've stopped purchasing from Burpee's directly, but I still look for their seeds at WalMart et al. Hopefully the seed racks will have Biker Billy Jalopenos when my current packet runs out...
I had a Scooby Doo moment...Rhuh? Cucumbers? What?
I found that some of the Burpee seeds at WalMart (or wherever) were more reasonably priced than the catalog although sometimes the seed count varied greatly both greater than or less than.
Scooby do moment? I had burlpess cucumbers on my mind!
I think I was in the twilight zone....
You can visit the Burpee Trial grounds in Fordhook PA at the Heronswood Summer Open.

I had very good luck with all my seeds this year and alot of them were from Burpee. The ones that failed were my doing not the seed. We still get Burpee seeds around here from WM or other stores. Some of the seeds I pick up at WM because they are packaged in smaller amounts and much less expensive than the catalog. I'll try them again this year and maybe even some of the newer varieties that I think look great.
