Its still green. I seem to remember that you wait until its turns golden-yellow before cutting it off the stem. Any ideas?
When do you harvest a pineapple?
That is just way to cool. Just had to comment as I have never scene one befor it is harvested. Enjoy..
It looks about ready to me. If remember right it should turn a bit golden yellow in the fruit area from the bottom up to the top once it has done this it is rip. You should notice a color change soon.
way cool!
It should smell ripe....a bit golden in color helps depending on the variety, not rock hard.
Thanks for the information. I will check it tomarrow morning for ripeness. It took about four years to develop from a cutting to a fruit plant, so I will enjoy seeing it ripe and ready to pick.
Be careful!
Last time I actually got a fruit, the stupid tree rats (squirrels) ate the pineapple before I got to harvest it.
Grrr.
Thanks for the warning about squirrels. I did'nt realize they liked pineapple.
Variegated pineapple plant, bwilliams? Mine are just solid green.
Yeah this is a more ornamental form with pink in the center usually and green and white leaves. Its fruit is usually bright pink and the top of it is var also.
The pineapple fruit is bright pink? Get out! That is way cool.
Since it is an ornamental form, the fruit is inedible?
I believe it can be eaten but is not grow for fruit. Not sure if it taste any different the fruit is usually smaller.
