Kell's LA X EP #5

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Finally opened before frost. It is projected to go to 29 tonight, hope they're wrong. You can't tell from the photo that it is a very large bloom. I like the shape.

Very pretty Linda.

Huntsville, AL(Zone 7a)

Oh that's beautiful! It completely reminds me of pink satin. Gorgeous flower.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Linda, very nice! Congrats to you & Kell! It looks like it's ready to start flitting here & yonder! LOL

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Very pretty soft pink.

Do bring your Brug in. We've got night time temps hovering around 27 degrees too....Bbbrrrr!!!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I really like this one Linda. My favorites are the big rolled skirt like this has. I have one that is similar. NIce low calyx too. I would love to see if it is darker in the summer. Are you keeping this one?

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Hi Kell, yes, I'll keep a tall cutting of the top. It's a good 9-10 ft. There will be 'below Y cuttings if anyone would like to grow it in another climate.

Huntsville, AL(Zone 7a)

If you have enough to go around, Linda, I'd love one! Thanks!!

Barb

Corte Madera, CA

Linda, I would love to try a cutting here in San Antonio, between zone 8b and 9a. It is beautiful. I just love the pinks.

Thanks.

Well, the frost got it, so I had to cut it today.

Looks like about 7 inches across and a very nice fragrance.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

So it is big. LOL. Did you cover them with sheets? If it doesn't get too cold, I find it really helps.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

And it is a very nice pink for this time of year too!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Is there a name for the notch between the points? I really like this look.

Thumbnail by LindaSC
San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I think it is notch, bt not sure. LOL. It looks like a pink slip laying on the floor.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Kell, this one was about 9 or 10 ft tall. No, I didn't cover any of them with sheets. The ones under trees were more protected.

Do you want a start?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gosh Linda, I usually say no but I might have to succumb. I do really like it. And I am getting so hard to tempt lately! I have been thinking of getting out of the brug business, but I keep getting the come hither looks from some of them. LOL And they are all PINK ones!! LOL

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

It has 2 more buds, we'll see if they open in the bubbler. It did remind me of satin fabric when I was playing with it. I'm sure it will be darker in the heat of summer.

I'll put your name on one. Should I send you the pollen too?

Linda,

If there are enough cuttings, please put me on the list. I would gladly pay postage +.

Maben, MS(Zone 7b)

If you have another cutting and would like to try this in zone7.

Ruth

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Sorry, all cuttings are spoken for. It had just Y'd and had first bloom so there aren't any above Y cuttings. All are from the trunk region.

Linda, she is soooo pretty and I do think she will bloom in the GH. First, I want to show you this one that is still in the ground and it was freezing last night and she is very light, does have that thingy between the points, and was under shelter of leaves which will end up fried later on today. LAxEP from Kell, thanks, Kell, I love them!!

My digi will not date correctly all these photos say 12/21/05. I'm going to have it fixed I hope...sorry about that.

Here is another LAxEP in the greenhouse - the one spent bloom was opened when I brought her in, the rest opened between Fri and this am. I hope you can see the buds, she is really loaded to be such a young girl, she smells great too, but sometimes more than others. My digi date wrong.

Edited to say that the blossom over the heater is being roasted, they are real warm in some spots, very cold in others. I haven't had time to cut them up...

These are pods in the GH, do you think they will ripen there?? I have quite a few and was too afraid they would freeze. How long does it take for them to ripen??

Very pretty Sherry, I liked both of mine that bloomed. The third one opened white and had a faint tinge of pink before the frost got it. I've got lots of work to do out there today. Many limp dangly leaves. Some will be made into tall cuttings, others will go on the street.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I think they will bloom for you in the GH, I just hope my pods will ripen. Have you ever tried one in the green house?? I have mine in bubblers. BTW, I have two seedlings of yours that survived, despite receiving too much care or not enough. I will attach a photo, yours is ButterflyxHybridDr.Suess. I have them planted in Sam's bottled water bottles, and I love being able to see the roots growing. Included with yours are seedlings from Mary Heik and Ada...I find that after all is said and done that I won't be bringing many cuttings in the GH for me, just a few favorites, I LOVE growing seeds!! I don't have Butterfly, so I'm really looking forward to yours, have you had any bloom yet??

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Very pretty Sherry! Funny how EP shows so much in some and not so much in others.

I think both yours and Linda's will get darker in the summer. I have gotten lots of dark ones from this cross. Mine here are the reverse, EP X LA

This one was so dark it was almost red. I also liked the shape. Lets see if it holds up next year.

This is the same cross and maybe even from the same pod as the one above. I liked this one because the color went all the way up to the calyx.

Both are great Kell, there are so many pretty ones (all).

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Yes, Kell, yours are great!! Your seeds have been a delight for me, a guess is that I had ten bloom, and, or Y for certain, freeze stopped a couple from blooming. Lots os things I liked about them, they really don't need to be staked, they grow straight and fat - I had a couple of three bloom under three feet, one 111/2 feet and others in between - they took the sun and all of the horrible conditions we've had and any number of gardening, chemical accidents, and they are steady as rocks. I like them lotz. Linda, I called one of mine LAxEP #5 - well I did it for Chanel, and because mine is scented nicely, but now I realize I got the idea #5 from you, no wonder I liked it!!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Sherry, I number mine when I'm potting them up. I always start seeds in a community pot, then when it's time to give them their individual pot I name and number them. I have a spreadsheet where I track their location. My yard is divided into 50 zones, and I have a list of what is in each zone.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Oh, my gosh, you are sooooo organized, I admire your organization abilities oh so much - I can/do organize offices and homes, other than my own, and my garden is lacking too. I DO have name tags on everyone. And, quite honestly, this spring I was lucky to get anything in the ground, the cast wasn't removed until the end of April and then it rained. I have received cuttings from those that organize seedlings and cuttings in a similar fashion that you use, and I do plan to do better this year. Thing is, I didn't expect so many seedlings to bloom the first season, I will not be caught off guard in 2006. I sprout mine in rockwool, and, last year, moved them to Styro cups, I hate Styro cups, always did, now hate them more. OTOH, I got a heap of first season blooming seedlings. I had a sad crop of summer seedlings, but here are a few in Sam's bottled water bottles. I LOVE the Sam's bottles!! Two of your seedlings are in the bottles, ButterflyxDr.S, I think. Thing I really love is being able to see the roots, kinda fun...

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I'm so miffed. My photo was attached, I have no idea why it didn't fly. I'm glad I checked. I wish there was an Edit option where the attachment could be added. 2nd try:

Gosh, I hope you can see the roots - Linda, yours is on the left end, then Ada's, Mary H's, then another Ada seedling. I just love seeing them root...
