Sure I would bring them in and let them dry out and then open the pods and see if the are developed enough to save. And maybe do a germination test. I had English daisies get wiped out this week I was hoping for seed but it sends out enough runners to be scary

Robin,
It may depend on the plant and how hard the freeze was in your area. We had our first freeze lat night. Got down in the 20's susposed to be down in the teens tonight. I ran my heatlight and heater last night. My cukes and tomatoes were still doing ok this morning. We already had I think 3 heavy frosts here.
I gathered the last of my Hollyhock seeds today.

Some seeds need stratification to germinate, so, if mature, they will probably be fine with the freeze. Probably the best way to determine if the seeds are damaged by freeze is to determine if they reseed in your zone 4 in the spring. If the seeds are viable after a winter outdoors, they should be fine after a freeze. They just need to have matured. I've finished maturing some seeds by bringing the stems in to finish drying, but after a hard freeze, that may not work.

A germination test is pretty easy to do. You moisten a paper towel, sprinkle some seeds over it, fold the paper and slide it in a plastic bag (ziplock). Let it stand at room temperature and have a look once in a while to see if there is any sprout showing. When you want precise results, you can put a large known number of seeds in your test so you will be able to calculate the germination rate.

I would definately collect the seeds. A couple of years ago a datura scattered seed about my garden. In the spring I had a few volunteers pop up. I live in zone 5 where it gets quite cold and the seed still germinated without my help.
