Have moved my epi in the house and have some new starts rooting (i hope) should I fertlize in the winter or should I wait until I move them out in the spring? Also do you always use bloom booster or just reg fertlizer when they have already bloomed? Thanks in advance for any help. Judy
Fertlize in winter?
Hi Judy, I would not and do not fertilize in the winter. It's good to give them a rest in winter, and I think some go dormant in winter, and you would not want to fertilize when they are dormant. Also, fertilizer will disrupt the rooting process so definitely don't fertilize rooting cuttings. You can start in the spring when your plants are outside and then fertilize until fall. I like to start out in the spring with Bloombooster, but I'm not sure how much of a difference it really makes. I haven't been growing them long enough to do any sort of study on fertilizers and how they impact blooming. Regular MiracleGro fertilizer should be just fine. Supplements like Fish Emulsion, Superthrive, Start, and Spray 'N Grow are also beneficial.
