Help with ginger

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Long story short, my friend from the Gulf coast sent me three ginger plants. She is in a location where the cell phones won't work and I need to know what to do with these plants, they look great and look like hostas, or other clump plant. Should I put them in the ground now, or pot them up for the winter, and put them in the GH, as if there was space?? I've looked in PlantFiles and I did not see any like these, they are fragrant and want Sun to Part Sun, huh, is that the same as Sun to Part Shade?? When she gets her place repaired and rebuilt, I'm sending her brugs to reestablish her garden, which she had never seen until after Katrina. The ginger leafs are green with white stripes and spots. I'll try to get a photo. TIA!!

Oh gosh variegated gingers, do not get me started. And a spotted one. too??? Carol is trying to track me down one she posted last week. I LOVED IT!!

I have no clue Sherry, I am new to gingers. Since you do not have enough time for them to set down deep roots maybe you should put them in the GH. If no one knows on here, I bet some one on Tropicals would know. Lots of ginger lovers there.

I am just starting to get into gingers. Don't you just love them so??

It's canna they look like, here is a photo. I killed some gingers a couple of years ago, but they didn't resemble these. Can you tell anything about this photo, I do know that they are very fragrant which is why they were sent to me...

BTW, the date is WRONG on my digi, it won't stay fixed, sorry about that!

I wonder if that is Dr. Moy. I believe that is a Hedychium ginger. That kind grows here all over. It takes over and can cover a huge area. I have bought a couple but am afriad to plant them. I may put them in a 5 gallon pot and plant that to try to keep them contained.

They are incredibly fragrant. A friend grows lots in her yard, a huge flower stalk that is orange. It is too fragrant. She usually cuts me one for my house but I do not bring it in. It is that odiferous.

Yes, that's what it is, a hybrid hedychirm coronariumx x coccine um / Dr. Moy, my master gardner pals have the plant and came over to identify mine. They say it's wonderful and does not take over here any more than variegated cane, which my daddy taught me to contain, tapping the edge/new shoots with roundup when it moves; however, I've never had to do that, mine stays where I allow it and I stop it with heavy mulch and cut it down in the winter - I use it to shade some brugs and it's wonderful! I have tons of space, so I'll find some way to use it Dr. Moy, I have three, so I'm going to put one in a big pot too, I have one that will be perfect already, too big for anything else. So, I'm thinking these things are really hardy, or maybe the cold (her in South Arky) is too much for them, ya think?? Thanks, Kell!!
