Unidentified Brazilian Passiflora in bloom

Floresville, TX(Zone 9a)

For those who were following the thread here's a link to the old one where I was trying to get an ID on it: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/552734/

And here's the pic of it in bloom... this was actually yesterday moring, but computer death kept me from posting sooner lol.

Here's a superclose shot of it at an angle. There's a very short lower layer of filaments on the flower.

There were two open today... it might be worth noting that a cold front came through last night and it endured a night of 30mph windgusts, plus a high of only 60 today and still bloomed flawlessly.

Now for a little other info... it opens flat but reflexes completely (petals and filaments) by the afternoon. The smell is like the larger flowered types like platyloba and alata but much fainter.

Can anyone possibly ID it now?:-)

I can't ID it, but it's very pretty! What is the tree in your last picture, with those thorns on it?!?!?!?

I think it is passiflora Loefgrenii
http://www.shop.sunshine-seeds.de/index.html?d_11013_Passiflora_loefgrenii__Iporanga_39623.htm
I think this is what it is looks like it to me anyways,...take a look give it a second or two to load it will pop right to the picture i want you to look at.

I agree with rh on the ID. And I'm incredibly excited to see it as I was sent 2 tiny seedlings of that 1 this fall. They almost didn't make it but are now thriving under my 1000 watt growlamp. They're still quite small and no where near flowering but I'm now so darn happy I kept them!
But the vines have yet to show any of the peculiar growth characteristics you posted earlier. Mine have typical passi leaves much like all the others. It will be very interesting to see what this 1 grows up to be like. I'll keep you posted and continue following this thread.
Nice pics BTW;)

Isn't it pretty it's been on my want list for sometime now,... i have tried to get seeds to sprout a couple of times with no success but I'll keep trying.
I'm getting a new batch in a few weeks from the Netherlands that i've traded for.
I'm determined to to grow it from seed before i try a cutting or buy a plant.
I just know i can do it,... just got to keep trying till i get it done.

I doubt that is is P. loefgrenii, although it does look similar. I believe that it is Passiflora picturata http://www.hewo.nl/passiflora%20species/picturata.jpg but I'm no passiflora expert so...

PS: is the plant cutting-able :)?

Picturata? hmmmm, that is sure a possibility. Can you send me a pic at my e-mail address so I can forward it to a friend for Identification? He is the one that identifies the new species of passiflora, he can probably tell us.
thanks,
Mark

Zem, great guess there. The more I look at the flower bracts, the more I believe you are correct. My Picturata seeds never germinated, bummer.

I'm leaning toward Zem's picturata... the stamens on loefgrenii are much fluffier for lack of a better term. I also have a loefgrenii, and the plant looks nothing like the one in question, but then again, my loefgrenii doesn't like me lol.

As for cuttings, maybe this spring:-) I had to cover it up last night because it was supposed to freeze, but didn't thankfully, because the unusually long warm weather spell here has me way behind moving things for winter.

Mark, I'm sending you a picture btw.

Thanks for all the great ideas everyone!

Oh yeah, the spined tree is Mr. Spiny (my name for it lol), aka Chorisia.

Mark,
Thanks! The thing I based it on the most was the thick corona filaments and extremely "spiky" sepal-point things (sepal-awns if you wanted to be technical :)

Also, I feel your pain in the seed area :) I have had a 45% (at best) germination rate with all but incarnata (which gave me 100% germination in two weeks!) But this could just be because all I do is soak them and plant them in a plastic-covered pot (I've gotten eight or so species this way so I'll keep at it:)

Indigoez,
Chorisa, floss-silk tree right? saw one when I went to butterfly world.

They both look close to me,... went looking all over the net and it is hard to say.
But what ever the name it is sure nice,...now i must have both so i can see just how close they are for real.

Hey Mark did you ever find your picture of Quasar ?
I still cant tell a difference in it and Constance Elliott need help with that one.
I think i may have lost it last night it got down to 18F and i forgot to go cover her,do you now how much cold it can take?

gonna keep watching this and hopefully Marks buddy can id it.
Take care all,
Robbie

I had 2 responses last night from the passiflora society that confirmed that this was indeed, P. Picturata.

Robbie, I SO know what you're talking about. See it...want it.

Floresville, TX(Zone 9a)

I have that affliction too lol. That's why if it ever stays cold here there will be little room for anything in the house but plants... and on the plastic covered patio, and also in the plastic and sheet covered plant shanty towns that spring up at various locations hehe.
