Alocasia portei

Louisville, KY

I thought I would share what portei looks like. This is one of the parents in the popular hybrid by Lariann called portdora. The pic is of Joe Wright a good friend of mine who has collected plants most his life. He does a great job of growing them out.

I saw this on eBay recently and wanted it but they wouldn't send to California. I like how tall it is but not so wide.

looks sort of a like a very upright philo sellum

This is very beautiful plant and mine plant have two little babies, looking so cute with mother plant.

That is really pretty. I saw the portdora and really thought it would work well here and around my pool. I see that TiTi nursery has them, but I wonder where else I might get one more reasonably priced. When do you plant EEs? Can they be readily found at nurseries in the Spring?

bdunn,
check our Garden Watchdog here at DG before you order any plant related things.

businesses are rated

by our most honorable DG subscribers and have feedback you can read.

You can enter some too.

Further to what scooterbug mentioned, unfortunately there is no feedback for TyTy on the Garden Watchdog anymore but you can do a search on GardenWeb to get the gist of what used to be there. Trust me there was lots of feedback.

There are probably a several nurseries that sell A. portei but the only one I know offhand is Natural Selections. Brian (who started the thread) might be able to suggest a few other sources.

On the above mentioned redundantly named nursery no longer mentioned in Watchdog......
It's the info age........Google them.
There seem to be legal issues.

On Natural Selections................if Enid has it............simply..........you want it!
They do...............and I want it..........if it's there in Spring...........! lol

As for THEIR rating......

Just for the record A. 'Portadora' is officially Alocasia x portora.

Bananas first to shade the Natural Selections.
Man I'm actually glad I don't live that close to them.
The budget.................lol

I'm still trying to figure out what size vehicle to take to Brian's this Spring. :-)

How about I pick you up on my way down to brian's ?

Look for a big 4WD pickup with a 30 ft long gooseneck (5th wheel) horse trailer.

We can even strap some down on the hay rack on top of the trailer .... lol

fun to dream , huh ?

Ric, bananas take us so much room and they spread so. I don't have room for bananas and fun plants...Next?
