New Echinacea - Green Envy

for all the echinacea lovers that can't wait to get their gardening gloves on the newest and latest colours of this plant, get a look at this one. Can you believe the colour?

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Is that ever cool! Have you ordered from that nursery? If so, how did you find their service?

Oooooooh.....how lovely. I have the perfect spot for that one! . I just put in some tulips called Viridiflora "Deirdre" because of the similar colouring.
Very peaceful to look upon.

Thanks for posting this!

Erynne

Ann, I waste far too much time on here. One place leads to another to another. I was looking at wholesalers and hybridisers for new perennials. Put it this way. They all want to be found. Check out the links at the bottom. Better order early Erynne.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

OH MY!!! Ü Gotta quit looking at your links echoes......you are a dangerous enabler!

Sorry. I haven't got it on my shopping list. Just thought it was "interesting".

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

Echoes!

Oh my that is way to cool! Ok how are we going to get some?
Even my hubby said it was neat.
This will be hunted in the spring...do you think it will see me coming?

Wow, wow, wow! I wonder what price tag they'll put on that one?

Sandy

Settle down girls. Gotta have some patience. If you like it, wait a year or two and the price will come way down. It's still just a coneflower. I will reserve my judgement until I've seen it blooming or at least seen some real pictures of it in someones garden. Doesn't that picture look a little ....uh..kinda too...? to you? My guess on the price if you can find it, +/-17.00 to 22.00. Maybe 12.00 if there are lots. Whatever they think they can dig out of your pockets.

Hi.

I was at a gardener's gathering at the Montreal Botanical Garden last may. Someone was showing the new red echinacea and a purple echinacea with 2 very distinct rows of petals, one row about 1/2 inch above the other. The price tag for those babies was $28.00 per plant for the first one and $35.00 per plant for the other. At that price, I didn't even do much more than look at them and I kept my hands to myself. I must admit they looked nice but at that price, I'd have to hire security guards at night to guard the garden.

Sylvain.

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

Well, I have to admit I paid a crazy price for 'Vintage Wine' in a weak moment (had alot of those this season), but I got Sunset and Mango Meadowbrite at a 50% off sale this fall. Still were almost $15 a piece! Why can't I just WAIT?

Sandy

Sylvain, one of those sounds like Doppelganger or Doubledecker. I started those from seed winter before last. Some bloomed with the top knot this year. Would not pay such prices for perennials that can be started from seed.

Even if you buy them as plants Doppelganger came way down in price this year.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Wow that is a wowzer of a plant! That is alot of moola. I wonder if this one would come true from seeds.
:) Donna

So far I haven't seen any seed for sale for it or any of the new orange or yellow high priced daisies. Meadowbrites etc. I'd be wary of thinking any of these would come true from seed. Still might be fun to try, at least test if they are viable. Just looked and the price for Doppelganger seeds has gone up in Jelitto catalogue. Wish I had saved more.

Jelitto is offering angustifolia(the herbal one), pallida (going to try these this year), paradoxa (waiting to see if these survive and bloom), purpurea and purpurea Alba, Doubledecker, Magnus, Rubinstein(Ruby Star), Verbesserte Leuchtstern (Bright Star Improved, Starlight) and Rocky Top Hybrids. There now you've done it, got me talking seeds.

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Just saw pics of Doubledecker and Razzmatazz (wow) on an ebay auction for the seeds. Not sure if I'm allowed to post the link to that lady's auctions but she is here in Ontario. The Razzmatazz is quite attractive as is the Doubledecker but even she says that she's not certain if they'll come true from seed. Maybe I'll just stick to tried and true cuz I just hate being disappointed...sigh...

Erynne, you can try some of my seeds from Doubldecker next year. I will probably have lots.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Not quite sure whether all those varieites mentioned above are still Echinacea or other plants. but I would pay quite a bit for a Liberty Bell Hosta.

Ann

Yes, they are all echinaceas. A Hosta is a whole different story. or shall we say addiction?

Thank you Brenda; I would love to try them.

Erynne

P.S. watch your mail box later this week or early next.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I'm addicted - to hostas. 46 varieties and counting.

Ann

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

Ann, you know they say that admitting it is the first step.......

I think I'm still safe on Hostas. Only a couple that I have to have and if I stay away from Hosta sites I may be able to keep it down to one or two a year. Thought I'd get some new ones last spring and then found out that I'd got mostly the ones on the virus warning list, plus a few I'd been gifted the year before are also on it. I bought from a nursery, but I'm still thinking they probably came from Holland, considering the price. I'm trying to hold back on any further holicisms until I'm done with a few others like lilies and irises.

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

Ah, so there is hope of overcoming a holicism? Do you have proof of that, echoes? LOL

Sandy

Not yet, but I just figured like most things, when I start getting more and more interested in a new genus, the other will have to take a back seat. So far nothing has taken over the lilies. Keep thinking I will get my fill, but then it starts all over again with a different type. I could see that happening with Hostas......

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

echoes - if there are ANY that you HAVE to have, you better watch out. It won't be long before youa re addicted.

Ann

Well I'm still a little bit OK. I don't have to HAVE IT RIGHT NOW! yet.

Mississauga, ON(Zone 6a)

Brenda, that is just beautiful. Will have to send a picture of that to my daughter who loves green.

Joan
