ladies, be careful when you do the brug dance. once, i was so into it i backed up on an agave plant, and i almost fell down the berm.

i would have survived the fall, but not sure about my fancy camera. lol.

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Geez.. I'll have to be careful . Living on a small ranch in Texas we tend to have lots of native catcus plants all over the pastures.. but none around my yard. unless I get carried away doing the brug dance..... / / /.....and back up into one .ouch !

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Elva, Your plants look really good.

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Thanks Cindy,
all the ones you send look awesome !....plus some others I got and some I brought on ebay... I am brug crazy

After all I read about people rooting brug cuttings all winter in water, it looks like you rooted them directly in soil. Do you have frost at all there? That could be the difference...

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Woodspirit1 I rooted them in water , all rooted within I week than I potted them up.....
We dont have much of a winter here at all.. maybe a light frost if at all.
Last christmas we had a white christmas we got 6 or 7 inches of snow. Hadnt snowed here in 25 years. I had just gotten out of the hospital after fighting double pemonia for 15 days. So needless to say I lost all my new brugs that I had rooted. and the ones that I was rooting in water rotted on me cause there was noone to care for them. I lost so many plants last year.. This year I have new brug cuttings from a few DG members and some I got on ebay...
I dont want to lose none of them at this point. so we have a hoop house where my DH will put them in if needed...and I happen not to be here.. I have some that are 24 to 36 inches already....This babies sure grow fast.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

My little greenhouse isn't finished yet but my spoual unit checked out the sunlight it will get and today it got a full 8 hours. This area is quite shady after the trees come out but will be perfect during the winter and spring.
I am going to have to beg for a few cuttings. I especially need Whiskers and anything that will bloom in cool, rainy weather.

Cedar Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

woodspirt1, Howdy neighbor. I have several Whiskers' water rooted cuttings that I just put into soil. They are safe in heated greenhouse. I'll be glad to share. They need a bit more time to get good roots going. I'm about 20 miles sw of Dallas. geekgranny

Cedar Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

woodsprit1, whoops, I was thinking Lake Tawakony TX. DUH... I'll still be glad to share. geekgranny

Elva, Looks like your doing a fantastic job of getting your Texas Brug Ranch started!! LOL
I hope you will be sharing plenty of pictures when your new babies start blooming.

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Thanks to all DG members who shared their brugs with me.. I will have Texas Brug Garden... I cant wait till they start blooming so I can post pictures , just got the camera with that in mind.LOL I have a few brug angels to thank for my babies.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

We can't wait. Seems like you are off to a great start! You could have a brug forest with all your land!

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Great idea Kell !
Can I send you my cattle ? Than I can do all brugs.LOl MMMMMMm maybe I;ll start trading cows for brugs...

They are all doing good even afer the freak hail strom we had a few weeks ago that left them all without leaves....

geekgranny, well at least you are neighbors with my sister who lives in Carrolton but she is not a gardener. She says her ground is as hard as brick. I suspect she just doesn't like outside work.
I would love a Whiskers but can you hold off a little while? My spousal unit is building a small greenhouse and it should be ready in a couple of weeks..

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL. I would love a cow!! And a pig!! I am sure attached to Nadine's Daisy Mae. I think I was really meant to live on a farm!!

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Kell
I also had cow named Daisy Mae.... she died last year from a rattle snake bite.....I dont have any pigs, no chickens......have 2 bulls qnd 25 cows and 13 calves.and big hay bill.....LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Well forget that dream of mine! Rattlesnakes, ick!! I always have this romantic image of myself living on a farm with lots of animals but never has a snake been in the dream. LOL I always wanted fancy chickens like CCs too. And a duck!

Was Dasiy Mae a pet cow? I am sorry you lost her. Do the rattlesnakes live in the hay? I bet the calves are too cute. Do you have any pics?

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

rattle snakes live in the woods , some underground, under trees, under catcus etc.
Daisy Mae was my 1st cow , I had her 13 years , she would have a calf every 10 t0 11 months....I will post pictures I have beefmasters and longhorns....plus one of the bulls is a herdford bull huge weighs about 2000 lbs and he is only 4 years old....the beefmaster bull is about 2400 lbs he is 8 years old...I used to name them all when we frist started than I lost count..lol we sell calves 2 to 3 times a year

what is a beefmaster? I am familiar with herefords, angus, longhorns, and brahmas and some milk cows.
kell, I sent you a D-mail and asked you about that brug that was a promising red last year, but never heard from you. Are you still speaking to me, lol?

looks like tons of $$$ & $$$$$ to me!!!!!

Huntsville, AL(Zone 7a)

Elva, your cuttings look really good. The cattle are gorgeous, too! Reminds me of the summers I spent at my uncle's ranch when I was growing up.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Well, I would have thought with a name like beefmasters that milking would not have been a priority so are they both a beef cow and a milking cow?

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I have chickens, and they are funny, we LOVE them, we have 6 and they all have names, and we have eggs!!

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Yes they are both milking and beef cows.we dont milk them we leave that to they baby calves and we dont butcher them either.we raise them and sell them..
I couldnt eat my babies.LOl

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I think it's funny that we are talking cattle on the brug forum.
I have a question about alfalfa tea. I made a gallon and went to pour it on my pansies. Well, toward the bottom of the jug was pure sludge. Should I pour that out on the pansies too or just add some more alfalfa pellets and let it brew again?

Corte Madera, CA

betty, thanks for mentioning "alfalfa tea" - - - i'll brew some today for my brugs. they'll have a mid-week treat.

elva, photos please, when you get the chance =).

sherry, i want to get a couple of chickens, though not sure if we're allowed here. must check.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Betty, I answered you about red on the other thread you asked me about it on last month.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/552314/

This is what I said:
"Betty, I did and I apologize. I read it on the run then forgot about it. Red is alive and kicking. I posted a picture I took of it the other day though I am not sure where. It is lighter in the cool weather but still dark. More orange when it is lighter without the pink influences. She is very difficult to root. I think only 2 other people have her. I will admit I have not been rooting like I have in the past and seem to be busy doing nothing. I had a couple others this summer that were very dark too. All have that orangey tint to them."

So sorry again, Betty! I recently saw a new red brug on another site that was pretty close to real red!! If it stays that color next summer, we are all going to die of lust!

I make my alfalfa tea strong so it is always alfalfa sludge. In fact that is what I call it: Alfalfa Sludge!! I pour it out just like it is. I may have to take the hose down close to it to break it up if a crusts forms but it works well.

Oh Elva, WOW!! Those beefmasters are HUGE. I would hate to be in their way! You must have all the steer manure you want. Your brugs are sure going to love you!!

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

It would be great to have a real red. That possibility seems closer and closer.
Kelly, I must have forgotten to watch the thread. I hope you have great luck with it. Odd that it's so hard to root. Have you tried any from seed?
Where did you see the other one?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I saw a picture of a very nice seedling that tiG grew that looked almost red. I'm sure we will see it sometime.....it really was gorgeous. I believe it was a MM cross. Could be wrong.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Was that over a year ago Brugie? I don't see the first pic I saw of it on kell's link.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

The one I saw was just a seedling from this year.
