Surprise, surprise

Coming soon!!!!

A picture of my very own Raspberry Rampage. She is almost ready to bloom!!! I can see 4 flower stocks getting ready to peak above the leaves.

Mine too! Mine too! I just spotted a flower stalk forming this evening! But I think yours will bloom first....

I thought you'all might like to experience this with me.

Day two and counting. Sorry the picture is a little dark. But I think you can see 3 stocks getting ready. There are 2 more hidden under the leaves. I received this plant from Rob's the end of July. All the others have been blooming since September. This one has just taken its sweet time. I understand that variegated leaf plants take longer to grow and longer to bloom. I was encouraged with a response to a question I sent to AVSA that the wait is well worth it.

I'll post another picture either tomorrow or Thursday.

Looking forward to the blooms.

Here it is as of 11:30 this morning. The color is very stricking. Deep, rich, red more that raspberry. The bright yellow stemins jump out at you and the white frilled edge makes the blosson seem even more rich in color.

Nanna, do you have a tupperware under your violets? is it for wicking? And if so, can you show some photos of how you make these?
(neophyte here!)

There have been a few different threads about wicking, self watering pots, etc.

Check out this one, http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/541027/

and this one has some photos of a wicking arrangement made from semi-nested containers.... hmmm, having trouble bringing it up... go to doghouse's September thread on "self watering pots"

I've been repotting with wicks, experimenting with various non-tupperware reservoirs... will post pics soon...

Begon....

Yes, that is what you see. Glad containers are very inexpensive and do a wonderful job. The key to wicking is the soil. It needs to be very light. The hyperlink should explain. Jill, is great in remembering all the discussion. If you need further explanation, I would be very happy to do a step by step with pictures. My avs have done much better with a wicking program.
