I will be sending cuttings out for the first time. It is okay to wrap the cuttings in damp paper towels and then put the whole thing in a zip lock?
Thanks for you help
Sue
Best way to ship cuttings?
OK Sue...
How far are you sending them?
Are they thin viney hoyas or big honkers like H. obovata etc.?
If they are thin and delicate...I slip the cutting/s into a large ziplock back, blow air into it and send it off....Priority Mail or better.
Otherwise, you can wrap the bottoms of the stems in wet paper towels and a plastic bag...just the bottoms...
Or throw them all in a box surround by newspaper which you can dampen and ship them off.
Isn't it a bit cold there now? They WILL freeze and/or suffer from the cold.

Carol,
They are not delicate ones, but not the "big honkers" either. Australis, lacunosa, incurvula, wayetti, and carnosa. They are going to Texas, and yes, it is getting cold here, but I am hoping that they will be protected by the box since the lowest we have gone in temps is 32 degreees so far.
Thanks for your help...I think I will try the box with newspapers, probably the best insulation?
Sue
Hs. lacunosa, incurvula and wayetti (H. kentiana) might travel better in a dry bag. If it is that cold, don't put anything in that is wet. wrap in lots of layers of newspapers and pray alot.
Carol
Thanks Carol....I put them in the mail today and lows are supposed to be 40, so I think I might be safe. If not, these are my largest plants, so I'll have to ship them again in the sping.
