Dichelostemma Ida Maia "CA Red Firecracker"

Oregon City, OR(Zone 8b)

I bought a package of 10 California Red Firecracker bulbs, on clearance sale, last night.

I have very little experience with bulb flowers, and I know even less about this kind.
What do you think about these? Recommendations / suggestions about planting location, spacing, care.....any comments would be appreciated.

My experience with ida maia is that they are wonderful, but the blooms are small and will be lost if you plant them near anything that will compete with their show. I planted them amongst some nandina and the flowers were about 2-3ft high and hidden in the nandina! Also they look better in mass. So I'd say put them somewhere in front, somewhere obvious, maybe even a container if you don't have a bunch. As for care...mine were planted on the south side of the house and in a corner that stayed even warmer because it was surrounded by concrete. The nandina probably did shade their roots though. Other than that I just planted them and forgot them. Their leaves are very long and strappy and they seem to come up early from what I remember, kinda like muscari.

I have planted them several times and never had any luck they either did not come up at all or just a tiny little blossom..so you are right..plant in mass and in the front away from overpowering things.
