I know it's fine that my grape hyacinths have put up all sort of foliage this fall, but... I was digging to plant more bulbs in an area where I'd previously put in some daffs, and some of them have spouts about an inch high! Is this normal? It's been milder than usual this fall, I think...
Maybe I shouldn't worry. When we had that crazy warm weather last winter, some of my daffs actually put up leaves (in January! zone 6!).... I kept telling them, Go back! Go back! and piling more mulch on top of them... I think most of them still bloomed in the spring. I just thought it was very odd to see those sprouts though, and I wondered if anyone else had observed something similar. ??
daffs sprouting in fall too??
Yes it is - mine are doing the same thing and they always seem to bloom at normal time. My Dutch Iris leaves are up too - and were last year but bloomed nevertheless in April. I'm just glad because I have a neighbor who likes to water constantly and my parts of my bed have been very wet because of it - and I was so happy to see they were still down there!
*whew!*
Guess I should just let them do their thing & not fret. :-)
