Where is fall?

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

I am in shock this year..Usually by this time I have dug up my Plumeria and covered some tender plants to ward off the cold!..But, My gardens are still flowering..the only hint of the impending winter is that I notice this morning that my Camellias are producing buds, some leaves changing colours..even my Garden Gnome "Freddie" is puzzled that the MG "Heavenly Blue" is trying to strangle him and the Geraniums are having a rebirth along with the Amaryllis are going strong in hopes of giving me some blooms this Christmas time...Jeanne

There really is an umbrella Trellis under that rose..."Cottage Rose" is a David Austin Rose that I highly recommend, it's a monster grower and the heaviest bloomer I have seen outside of my "Knockout" Roses..BS resistant .... the fragrance was overwhelming as I stood there to take this pic and I love the many petals...they are so special against the white backdrop IMHO

My Clematis "Josephine" that I planted this Spring finally produced its first bloom for me...You have no idea how excited I was to find this as I had feared I wouldn't even get to see one bloom this year...

I had no idea that Clematis can bloom so long..I love the intense colours of this one..the lavender pink Tepals and the hot pinkish red bars...makes this one really stand out in the garden

I was very vicious in pruning back my knockout Roses several weeks back..wanting to get them back into bounds and allowing time for the canes to heal and harden before our first frost/freeze comes..and they have rewarded me with a flush of newgrowth and blooms

I have found a renewed fondness and fascination with Climbing Rosa "Don Juan" what a glorious red, so fragrant and a winner in its own right

I plan on doing a "Part Deux" later...because I took so many pictures...this parting shot is to show you how wonderful the fishing was yesterday when the cool front came through..spent about an hour and got 19 Crappie..here is Gary holding two of them..the one on the left is 16 inches..the record is 18..now don't you think he is proud?...Hope you enjoyed and have a wonderful day...Jeanne

Really enjoyed the show. My roses are also still blooming even after Rita's tear through here. My clematis also has a flush of blooms. Just heard we may have some cold weather this week. Guess all of this will come to an end. Jenny

I've had some nice late surprises too. My cup and saucer vine is putting out new blooms and so is my perennial foxglove.

Jeanne, your garden is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing pictures of your beautiful roses and clematis. I love all of them; especially the clematis and the Cottage Rose - and thanks for your recommendations.

Even though we are still having some quite warm days (it was 83 here yesterday!) I noticed that in the last several days Autumn is really settling in with the trees. Friday I was driving through The Woodlands and enjoying the color immensely. Throughout the summer I had been keeping my eyes on all the vines growing up and through the trees, and now those vines are covered in bright yellow leaves. Strung throughout deciduous and evergreens, they look like garlands hung to decorate the roadside, really striking!

That said, I still have things growing and blooming in my yard - my Ducher & Martha's Vinyard roses are putting on lots of new growth and still have lots of blooms; some of the abutilons have flowers; the Mexican milkweed is blooming away; Copper Canyon Daisy is still fully flushed with flowers; the princess flower plant I got from htop in April is still blooming; several salvias are still covered in flowers; trailing lantana (!); bulbine is starting to bloom again after finding a new home; shrimp plant; pentas; sweet potato vines are still growing; and while my passion-vines aren't blooming, they are really growing (and are still visited by caterpillars.) Plus, I have some cool-season annuals that are in bloom - lobelia (love that electric blue!), allysum, peonies and nasturtium, English daisies - so there is still plenty of color in the back yard.

It has been a strange year, indeed!
