What's a Noid?
Noid stands for an African violet with No identification (No ID). Most of the African violets sold in grocery stores and garden centers don’t have a name. If you see a picture that looks like your violet, make sure to put a question mark after the name . To be Honest it is very hard to ID Noids. For fun I see no reason why you can't name them and put noid in their name so people know :))

I like to give some of my noID violets names of their own, but I'm always careful to write "NoID" on the tag after the name, and I always add "noid" to any description or picture too, especially for trading purposes.

They should have names too ! Just my 2 cents :)) Allison
Nanna just told me that she's started calling that chimera-looking NoID "Gypsy," so the tag in the pot now reads "Linda's Gypsy NOID." :-)
BTW, she also told me that if I look more closely at the blooms, I will see that it's not a true pinwheel.... and she was right! There's a little bit ofdarker pink that goes all the way around on some of the petals. Perhaps that means it's not a true chimera? I don't really know how to determine if something is a chimera other than to try propagating it and see what happens.... but I will be very happy if this stunning violet comes true from a leaf!
Yah, I know... now I've gone & mixed up the topics of the "What's a noid?" and the "What's a chimera?" threads!
