well there goes my brown thumb again.

I planted some lady finger carrots on an EB, I was going to experiment to see whether or not you can grow carrots successfully in EB, well today I went to check on it and to my surprise, the potting soil was covered with ants, I guess they have escavated a ant hotel on the potting soil. The only thing I could think about at the time was to spray the potting soil with bug be gone, according to the instructions it will also kill ants on contact, my question is whether I should just throw out all the potting soil, clean the box and start with new potting soil or whether I can save the old one, I am afraid that the potting soil could have ant eggs on it.

Spray the outside of the box with insecticide and the surrounding area. The soil you bought could have been contaminated. Dispose of it, wash your EB with bleach and water and purchase a premium potting mix. Try Jungle gowth. Can be purchased at Lowes. We are both in Fl. so your Lowes should have it. Or go to Wal-Mart and get their brand. Pro-Mix is also recommended. What did you use originally??

thanks T Plant, actually part of the potting soil I used was of an open bag I had and did not use so perhaps that's where they came from, the potting soil I used is Jungle growth, I remember that you recomeded it in the EB forum so that is the one I have been purchasing. I went to Home Depot today and purchased a big bug killer it sais that it last for up to 7 months so I am planning of spraying my whole yard with it, since I don't have any grass and the only thing growing in it is weeds I don't care if it hurts the weeds.
Thanks for you quick response.
