Fertilize palm trees now?

I just planted three small Mexican Fan and a Mediterranean Fan palm in the ground.. I bought some Vigoro palm spikes at Home Depot today.. Is it OK to fertilize these now or should I wait until spring? I am in a generally frost free area (Sunset zone 17) with a record low of 25 for the area.

BTW, the palms are in full shade right now (planted on the north side of the house) but will be in full sun by late April.

If you are heading into a cold phase I might just wait- I never feed anything that is not actively growing.

Anyway, if you just planted them, their roots aren't going to be caring about fertilizer for a while. And those two species are not that fertilizer needy... in fact, you could easily get away with never fertilizing them, unless your soil is really horrible (pure sand or decomposed granite for example).
