beautiful frilly edges.

Thanks, guys. =) Those frilly thumbprints got my attention too!

MK, Have you tried looking on the optimira web site for identification of this beautiful violet? www.optimira.com.

That is just lovely! I "dig the frilly bloom" too! :-)

I got an 'Aca's Pink Parfait' that should have pink thumbprint markings when it blooms, and I have a noid that DH gave me for Valentine's Day that I hope will be blooming again soon -- as I recall, it was purple with a white thumbprint, and really striking.

Oh, for the love of laziness!! lol I never got around to cruising Optimara.....I like their new site structure, by the way. Think you may have steered me in the right direction, Nanna. How 'bout this for a nail in??

WOW they sure look alike ! Doctor Optimara is great also. Allison

I think you got it! I also love the new structure. How did you set up the hyperlink? I am so "on line smartless".

To put in a hyperlink, just type in the address (URL) of the website, or copy it from the top of the page and paste it into your text. The DG software will set it up. It won't look like a link (blue text) until you [Send] it, but if you want to make sure it will work, click [Preview] first.

Thanks for the link, MK! Sounds like they've got a good search engine there... will have to check it out!

Found a picture! This is my Purple Thumbprint NoID. The white thumbprint on the blooms is much more obvious than I managed to capture in the photo -- all the blooms look like that center one. It's different than others I've seen in that the "thumbprint" marking is only across the lower petals of the pansy, not on each petal.

Hmmm.... Just went to the Optimara site, and I wasn't as impressed if I would've been if they'd added a simple search engine. Since they've already got all the photo/description links organized according to bloom color, leaf type, etc, how hard would it be to add a search algorythm so I could indicate that the AV I'm trying to ID has pink double blooms and girl foliage, for example? Did I just miss it on the website? Or do y'all click down the list and look at every one when you're trying to ID a violet?

Jill,

No, you're right. I have often felt the same way. I tried to contact them and tell them it would be easier to search with two or three knowns but nothing happened.

Optimara meg is the only " Optimara Av I know with double pink/girl foliage.
But First Class has many. Are you sure it is an Optimara ? Maybe it's Optimara Meg ?

Semidouble ( pictures look more like double ) pink two tone/darker center. Medium dark green , glossy, wavy, serrated, girl foliage.
Standard growing.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be confusing, I was just using my Rosie Girl NoID's characteristics as an example for database lookup. I don't have any reason to think she's an Optimara, and I think she's a semimini from her growth habit. But thanks for trying to help me find her!

The Optimara database isn't (IMO) detailed enough for positive IDs for the most part anyway... as you've said, they're tough to ID from a picture, and the descriptions don't always seem complete to me. I think the Optimara site is adequate for ID if you have a violet that you bought in an Optimara pot that has lost its nametag, but otherwise I don't think I'd trust it for a positive ID.

Just my 2 cents. But it sure is fun to look though all those pretty pictures!!

I identified Optimira Meg from a purchase last week at a favorite nursery. I asked who the vendor was. Optimira was the name. I have found that most nurseries are happy to let you know from whom they purchase things. It helps a little when trying to identify a plant.

Most of the Home Depot stores around me are purchasing from Canada. That's where the problem comes. I have no idea where to go to help with identification when the violet comes from Canada.

The plant Jill gave me of rosey girl is not quite big enough to tell if it's meg or not.

Well, the Rosie Girl NoID came from Home Depot...

I've had mine for a couple of years, and I'm pretty sure it's a semiminiature.

Edited to add that I just checked out Optimara's photo of 'Meg', and it does look a lot like my NoID... maybe mine is just stunted! It's so hard to get some colors right in pictures.... in the photo I've posted (but not on this thread, LOL, I just scrolled up & checked), I adjusted it until I got the "right" color in the middle of the bloom, but it's still a little washed out. I have no idea how Home Depot managed to get it into a perfectly color matched plastic pot!
