Anyone have an answer for spindly growth & yellow leaves

Petersburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Bought a Grand Manier in summer, came with 100 percent bright
yellow leaves, that did not drop . Had Y'd at 2 ft.
Fed weekly , added Epsom Salts, Ironite, etc finally grew new leaves
that were pale green/yellow.
What I do not get is the skinny
flimsy stem and branches,(it's 3 1/2 feet tall )
but all are as thin as a pencil.
Is it a "birth defect" ,disease or wrong previous culture?
Too much growth stimulant from the original grower?
As weak as this plant is it would bend to the ground
with just one bloom.Anyone encounter this problem , how can I fix it?

I had a similar problem, with another brug last year, and I no longer use Ironite, but I cannot swear that is what caused the problem...good luck!!

Trim back the weak growth/branches and put it in a pot or large hole FULL of NEW potting mix .Miracle grow is good , it is very compost-like .

Grand Mariner is a strong brug but it cannot get strong if you do not do this cut back.

Hopefully this very old brug will spring back to health.

When you start adding single elements like epsom salt, iron , etc. be sure you know what and why you are doing so.

Adding the wrong supplements can create an even MORE severe nutritional imbalance than what you started with.

Even the main stem is flimsy,
I received it in that condition,
should I chop down to groundlevel?

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

No, Just cut it back like I said .
It needs some leaves to make sugars to feed new growth.

That should encourage some nice new shoots to come up.

Let them grow and eventually overtake the weak part.
