Asiatica early Xmas present

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Wow I am one happy camper today! My FIL always tries to give Xmas presents that the person enjoys, well he has hit the jackpot with me. Thanks to my wonderful hubby who gave my FIL a hint on what I would like for Xmas; I received a gift card from Asiatica. Today my present arrived and I must say I am totally impressed with the plants I received. They are a really nice size, healthy and wrapped very well. They were labeled as Hoya sp 22 Khao Yai, Hoya sp 24 Nakron Sri Thumarat and Hoya Naumanii. Are they correct ID's, who knows, but I do know they are very NICE and I'm happy with them:-)

Awanda

wow, those are some nice sized cuttings. I'm liking the leaves on the one in the middle. Is this the company that sends rooted Hoya's in cocunut husk or something like that? Very nice Christmas gift. Now you have gotten enough hoya's for this year. No more for you.

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Hi Tami, yes that's the company. I removed as much of the husk as possible without damaging the roots!

Is that the strange bark that I received my hoyas in? It's unlike regular orchid bark. This stuff is hairy! LOL.....

(So who is gonna tell me why the husk was removed?? And why? And what did you re-pot with?)

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Lynn I believe that is coconut husk our hoyas came potted in. For me it's a personal preference to remove as much coconut husk as possible. I prefer all of my hoyas to be potted in the same mix. I use Fox Farm Ocean Forest Organic, Warrior, a soil-less potting mix, and #3 perlite. Added together they make a fast draining, light mix. HTH

Wow, Awanda! Nice hoya cuttings....and what NICE MEN you have in your life!! Merry Christmas to you a little early! =0)

Huntsville, AL(Zone 7a)

Wow, Awanda, I bet you were Ho-Ho-Ho-ing all over the place! I know I would have been. I love the leaves on the one on the right, last pic... nice.
Question... where do you get your #3 perlite? I remember Carol mentioning that particular size (?) grade(?) of perlite before.
Thanks.. and be sure to keep us posted on the growth of your gifts!

Barb, I just finished posting on another thread, Kelly's Korner orchid supplies has big perlite. How do you post an email address. Her's is www.kkorner.com what am I missing?

A-l-l-l-l-l-l-right, Heather to the rescue! Thanks! Did you see my mixture I cooked up over the weekend? I think with the larger Perlite it would have been about as close to perfect as I can imagine. I'll go check it out now.

Heather, I went here...

and found the perlite that would be perfect for my plants. Thanks a bunch for the heads-up!

Oooohhh....a gift card from Asiatica.....my FIL is fabulous....but....could we trade FIL's for just a day or two 'round Christmastime? lol!!

I've seen *lots* of stuff on their website that I'd love to have, but much of it is 'rare, touchy' stuff.....and the prices and shipping just keep me hesitating.....(they have the Dracaena goldieana that I've coveted for *years*!!)
I've heard good things about them, though.....and they certainly can't be beat in their ability to offere the 'rarest of the rare'!

OK, folks.....is this perlite you speak of above the 'larger' type?
I've been trying to find that and pumice.....never offered 'round here!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

That Chula Orchids looks like a great supply house!!! And I like their attitude and sense of humor.

Los Angeles, CA(Zone 9a)

Nan, ACsAgape plants website has pumice for sale.

!! I should have known this !!! Thanks, Heather!

I had seen some for sale on ebay.....the only thing that concerns me with ordering pumice via the mail is the shipping cost.
Has anyone ordered pumice via mail?

I'll have to check on the cost with AC's.

Los Angeles, CA(Zone 9a)

Nan, AC's uses the one rate priority box. I think it is like $7 for a small bag of the pumice. If you get the perlite, you won't need to get the pumice. I bought a huge bag of pumice from somewhere, can't remember. I just google search for what I'm looking for. You can almost always check on shipping before you make the sale final. Hth.

Nan the bags I ship are 4 quarts and the flat rate priority shipping is $7.70.

ok so now we're talking no "3" perlite. Is that the same perlite in the stores?

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Susan most stores don't carry #3 perlite, you usually have to order it. #3 perlite is about the size of a pea, what you find in stores is much smaller.

Awanda
