growing desiree in 10a

Corte Madera, CA

hello everyone! i've gone really bonkers with doubles, and saw "desiree". i've read somewhere that it is a slow grower. i am wondering if the longer growing season here in california affects its growth habit. photos and advise please.

thank you!

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

I grew two of these this summer. One never y'd and the other just did in the last two weeks. I am going to leave it in the ground as long as I possibly can hoping to see a bloom.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

like name another i never heard of..

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

I've never had a bloom on mine in three years

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

I just ran out and looked at mine and it has two buds on it. I doubt it will have time to bloom before frost though. I might try to dig this one up and put it in a pot so that I can move it into the greenhouse until it finishes blooming.

My other dbl. orange ( Herrenhauser Graten) didn't even make buds this year.

patricia (crossing my fingers for you!), twyla, ada - - - thank you for the input. i should not rush into getting this then unless it falls from heaven. lol.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I just tossed mine, never bloomed here.

Corte Madera, CA

thanks, gloria. see, i should be over her pretty soon.

i wonder what other doubles do great here in 10a.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

What is it about the dbl. oranges anyway. It took me two years to get my Herrenhauser to bloom the first time, then I moved here and can't get it to bloom again.

Corte Madera, CA

oh, patricia...that can't be good. i like the color ORANGE. knowing now that some are slow bloomers should CURB MY ADDICTION.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Think we are coming up with newer dbl. orange crosses. Should bloom sooner than the older ones. Sure hope so!

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

I sure hope so too. It is so discouraging to wait all season for one to bloom and then nothing. My space is so precious that I hate to use it for plants that are hard bloomers anymore.

Mc Call Creek, MS

I've posted this in several places, so if I sound redundant, please just ignore me.

My Herrenhauser Garten has bloomed every time I've sprayed it with Messenger. I don't know if anybody else has tried it or not. Maybe it's the way I'm holding my mouth when I spray, but it works for me so far. This plant likes it wet and fairly shady a good part of the day. And the mites think it is very tasty.

The "flushes" are not big....two to three flowers. But they are so gorgeous, they are worth the trouble and worth waiting for to me. Incidentally, the first two blooms on mine were very light colored singles, so be patient with it and give it a chance.

Kay,
You are lucky,indeed!
I have sprayed my HG with everything that is out there,
and the &*@! wont do anything, just sits there.
No new growth since I got it,except replaced leaves
it lost due to ship shock.
I think that ( from same stock plants) can be as
temper-mental as people.

Corte Madera, CA

kay, wow! you know i have an industrial supply of messenger, and will start a regimen soon. i've said this before i know, but the last few months have been crazy, going back and forth to san diego, and my brugs missed out on some pampering.

i hope this HG i'm growing is not a nut case like me.
