I have an angelwing begonia that Im wondering if its a regular variety..the reason I ask is that a friend just sent me a cutting from hers and the leaves are huge...this picture was taken right after I brought it inside and its a bit beaten up from not bringing it in fast enough before the weather has changed...any thoughts would be appreciated....Judy
Angel Wing Begonia
Judy,
Could be this..Cane Begonia 'Lois Burke' (Begonia ) from the 'plantfiles'. 8>O
Looks like b. 'Medora' http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/97660/index.html
and there are thousands of canes (angelwings) out there. Lots of hybrids. You can go to http://absastro.tripod.com/ and http://begonias.org/ for more info and photos.
One of my canes has dinner platter sized leaves!
Come visit us in the begonia forum.
Gee I didnt know there was a begonia forum..lol..I was looking through all of the forums I ahd check marked and I guess I didnt realize there was one for begonias...and thank you for the links..Im going to check them all out....going to the begonia forum now....Judy
I'm pretty sure it's Medora.
Judy, I have quite a few begonias, including one like that (don't know the name, though) - I find they respond very well to what a friend calls a "stern grooming" - being cut back by about half, and they thicken up like crazy.
Im going to trim mine too now you say that....I took it to work and will leave it there all winter......thanks for the suggestions...Judy
be sure to put the trimmings in a glass of water (I use a half to full cap of hydrogen peroxide in the water too). You'll have new plants in a few weeks!
