I've never separated a pup, I could use some pointers. I've water blasted away most of the soil so that I can see where the pup attaches to mom. I've tried to untangle some of the roots. I plan to cut the pup away from mom. Then what?? do I let the cut heal over? This will be shipped for a trade.
separating a musa pup
I have not done this operation ' yet'
As far as healing over you could prolly roll it in newspaper to ship and I would guess the cut will be dry by the time it reaches its destination.
I have no clue but I wish you success, Linda!! If Susie comes by she will know for sure!
Thanks girls, surgery has been completed and I think it went well. Baby is on the deck drying and will be shipped tomorrow. I hope I did it right.
I try to let the cuts dry a bit before potting or shipping.
Thanks Susie, it is wrapped in newspaper so it won't hold any moisture.
Linda, I tried sending Chinese yellow banana several times and they always rotted. I had one that had been lying on the ground in the shade for a week or so and I sent it just wrapped in newspaper and it made it there without rotting! The only ones that don't like to dry out are those itty bitty tissue culture babies(I killed a few of those, lol)
