I got one of these today at Target. It was by the register, I was almost done with my purchase and then I saw it. I had no idea what it was or how much it cost, but it was a beauty! So, it is now part of my babies. Question is, what is it, how does it grow, ???? I have never seen it before and never knew such a plant even existed (it's name, that is). Any information is greatly appreciated!

I'm not familiar with that one either, love the under leaf.

Ana, most people grow these as houseplants. I have a cenanthe var. unk. which I have planted inground, moist location outdoors, full shade. Our winters are mild. they get ratty in the winter, but recuperate quickly. moderate grower for me.

The top of mine looks exactly like yours, but the underside is regular green. I hear they are easy to propagate, though I've not tried.

enjoy your new plant

vossner, judging from my replies, you and I are the only ones growing this! It is very pretty and I do like it very much.

Any more info would be great! Thanks, all!

I grow bunches of Ctenanthes....they like shade, filtered shade and WILL grow in the sun but not all day sun. In the shade they can get very tall. Well drained lose soil and lots of water!!!

Thanks Carol. Then my patio should be just fine. They are behind the screen so it is nicely filtered. I will make sure that this one stays damp. It will give me a really good excuse to lounge around out there (I have to take care of my babies!). They sure do look great and I hope to have plenty to trade one day.

Thanks Aloha!

When they put up a stem with a 'goose foot', you can cut that off with a bit of the stem and plant it...it roots easily. Once yours grows, you will see what I mean.
