Watcha looking for?

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

Anything other than a shrub, seed or vine.

We prefer something that flowers to attract the hummingbirds.

Just send what you feel will work and I will put some EE's together.

Do you have a greenhouse for the winter?

K, does Jatropha do well there? I have some seedlings of Jatropha compacta (integerrima, I think). I also have an outstanding plant called Bouvardia ternifolia that attracts tons of butterflies but I have never been able to get cuttings of it to root,
This the jatropha.

ardesia
i would love to get some of your plants you are offering is it any way i could find something for you to trade? plmk

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Well, as I said, unless anyone has an idea for rooting the Bouvardia, I cannot get a cutting off that one to grow. However, my Jatropha is setting seed that should ripen in a few weeks. I can send you some fresh seeds; they germinate easily and grow quickly . These plants would not be hardy in Hickory however. Do you have a toasty warm place for them this winter? Or, I could send you some in the spring. Let me know.

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

Ardesia,

Did I not warn you the jatropha mutiply quickly?

K

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

Oopppps.

I thought I sent you Jatropha.....

Yes it does well and we have about 20 some of them growing.

Are you sure I did not send that to you?

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

Oh to have your problem! sigh

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

:-)))))

No, I bought my plant locally. You sent me the Daisy Tree which, I might add, is doing beautifully.

Do you also have the Bouvardia in PR? (I will turn green with envy if you do.)

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

No we do not, that I know of.

But after a google search of it, I do want one.

Once I get it it and it is established, I will send you a cutting.

I just need to throw it over to my hubby to add it to his "honey do" list of things to buy.

K

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Oh good, now I don't have to turn green.

I have plenty of cutting material, they just won't root for me. This is a beautiful but very stubborn plant, sort of like one of my children. LOL

Maybe I should send a cutting to you, it might like your island better than mine. whatcha think ???

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

Sure send it my way.

I will spoil you in the spring.

Hey Ardesia, that's a pretty cool photo with the butterfly. Why don't you enter it into the DAVES GARDEN photo contest! I'm pretty sure there's a butterfly catagory!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Thanks Begonia, not sure about that one but I will surely enter something.

Thanks Moretz..good info !! Margo

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Thanks Moretz, perhaps trying the cuttings in February will do the trick. According to the info you found this is one picky plant when it comes to propagating.

There are several seed pods on the Jatropha now; I will "bag" them (with nylon tea bags) to catch the seeds as they ripen. They should be ready in a few weeks. I'll let you know.

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

Ardesia,

Watch out, they multiply very quickly.

I had one not more than a foot grow a seed.

Fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately) I have never had one germinate in my nasty marsh muck soil.
