I'm so excited - y'all remember my Monster seedling I posted about a couple months ago - the one with the 3ft leaves I had to tie to the side of the barn?? Well..I moved it into the 2nd floor window of the barn a few weeks ago before frost and it is FINALLY gonna open her first bloom! This baby is a monster. I measured the bud 3 weeks ago and it was 8" long. I was really hoping for a double but it doesn't look quite like it..even though I can't see up inside yet..
BF X Creamsicle (datdog) - finally gonna BLOOM
here's another view...her pod sibling is in there with her and should open a bloom in the next few days too!
I think it is probably too late and too cool to fairly judge this flower this year..do you all agree? After she flowers I will cut her back and bubble the top piece and repot next Spring. Who knows..maybe next year she will be throw doubles! I think the flower looks like BF at this point...what do you think?
Diane
I think she looks fantastic. Already like a hot lady! Look at the curves! LOL. SO big Diane. And your barn even looks to die for. LOL
My ruile is, if they are not so hot, I say next year will be the better judge of her. But if they look fantastic, I say OH MY!! Next year will be sinfully good. LOL
I can't wait for her to open. If only you could reach and feel the middle of that calyx you would know if it was a double. Could be.
mercy you got a big one there nice way to go..
Wow! Jolly Green Giant?
I went in before work this morning to check on her - she is turning PINK! I climbed the ladder behind the plant and was able to reach the bloom easily so I gently peeked inside - she is a single. At least this bloom. She should be fully open by tonight or tomorrow so I will post more pics then. Her pod sister who is only about 4ft - has her first bud pushing out of the callx too. I should know more about that one tomorrow as well. Keep you posted..
Diane
Wow, Diane! What have you been feeding her? Also your barn sure looks like a guest house to me.
:) Donna
Donna - she is just naturally huge, I think.. LOL I have fed her the same as all the other brugs..primarily CalMag, Spray N Grow and Messenger...my 3 favorite never-be-without formulas.
Here is a picture of her today. A little darker pink. Seemed to have recurled a bit more. Actually, I'd prefer it if it didn't curl back all the way like this. Could it be the time of year or temp influencing this?
It's beautiful! I to noticed that datdog hasn't been around much lately. I hope she is okay.
:) Donna
KRNYSGIRL
I had this happend also with
a pink versicolor( not the orange versi though)
she did not do this while
she was blooming out doors all summer.
We've had the heat on a few nights , I maybe the
dry air makes them curl?
Well, that is interesting coming from Creamsickle. I have a few of this type and have always loved them.
I still have no clue why soemtimes you get so much recurve and sometimes not. I do not like it when it gets too far back. But you really can't judge on its first bloom or season for that matter. I think this is one to hold over!!
Kell/Diane, send all your recurves to me, I love them, course I love the nicely open ones with 6 inch tendrils too...yours is very pretty Diane, I have one from Kell that height and she didn't bloom until the first cold snap - I bet yours and mine are darker next warm flush...
Diane- thank you so much for growing the seeds :) until they bloomed. You've done MUCH better them me. I was very tough this season on all the brugs. If you didn't bloom you didn't come in. No more waiting for 2 plus years for a plant to bloom.
I think this one would be pretty if it had some color to it. I'd hold it over just because the leaves were so huge and it is such a attention getter.
Thanks everyone who's asked about me ((hugs)) you guys are the best. I'm okay. Just a lot of 'stuff' going on right now.
Diane, that is one monster plant! Man, I am green with envy! I like the color.. it's "gentle".
Barb
datdog,
Huge seedling leaves , known as 'juvenile leaves' in most instances will not continue exhibiting the same size as the plant ages.
and .......... most often when a plant Y's the leaves will begin getting smaller .
( and leaf edges can change with age too.)
Brugs are so fun to watch and grow, eh ? Ya never know what to expect ;-)
That's a pretty flower!
Kristy, I've got big buds on several of your crosses. I'll be posting some of them in the next week or so!
Kay
Hey, Kay!!! Delighted you have fall blossoms, I bet your garden smells as good as mine, tho some of the credit is due to Night Blooming Jasmine. Cannot wait to see your photos. I have about 1,000+ blossoms but they are all light in color, some darkening up now that it's gotten hot again. Cool coming Thurs, so it will be back to light, I have at least that many buds and hope at least some make it before the first hard freeze, regardless of the color...
1,000 + blooms is fantastic no matter what color Sherry! Take some pics for us all!
That is a conservative estimate and I sincerely appreciate your post, Kell, thanks so very much - and I have take photos, but it's different here in Arky, I have so much property that, once you've seen one area, they are so similar that it's repetitious and with the first cool snap, they all stagnated and ended up, light pink, which is WAY better than no pink, ha!!!!!!!!! I do have several Monster Whites from DonnaB that are so fragrant, lovely blooms, with tight, calyxes, split into maybe six sections, with one section a little more open - anyone else notice this??? Then, I have at least ten+ of your seedlings, Kell, that are wonderful, from 2 feet to eleven+ feet, but they are babies, and, you know, if you are not the mom, how babies look at birth, well, it's the same with your baby brug seedlings, and other's baby seedlings, and even most mature brugs, here in zone 8a, they are all light-med pink. I did have two Tiara blooms and they are cream, with a tinge of yellow and, wow, they smell like heaven. As dark as your crosses are this fall, I expect just about all of them to be stand outs next season - I'm just amazed at all the blossoms. Some of your crosses have 10 - 20 blossoms, several bunched, their first flushes, and wow, they are so healthy and not bug magnets, and some, second flushes, are fragrant too, what bonuses I have received, thanks. As if I haven't gone on and on, I will do so more, later....
LOL Sherry! TAKE SOME PICS! Sounds like we should all go to your house!
KRNYSGIRL ,
WOW what a huge plant,no wonder you need a ladder to get up there.LOVE the color of your bloom, very soft.
Sherry,
I concur ...Pictures please,please,please :-)
