Hoya cuttings from Smoley's

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Now that Bob Smoley is selling hoya cuttings, I decided to place an order. Well I was surprised when I received my cuttings yesterday, in less than 2 weeks from the time I ordered. I was also very pleased with the nice size of the cuttings. I ordered Pottsii Kuranda Qld, Pottsii McGilwrath Qld and Pottsii Badaboo Qld.

Awanda

Awesome Awanda!! Now will you get a couple cuttings out of each one, or will you use the whole thing for one cutting each?

Those look great, Awanda! Looks like cuttings are the way to go with Smoleys. David in North Carolina called this afternoon and said he also bought a few cuttings and they were 2' long!
Looks like you have the pottisii's covered on that order!

They look very nice Awanda. Could you post a link to their website by any chance?

Thanks,

Wow....great selection. Are you sure his IDs are correct?

One thing for sure, I ordered a latifolia cutting from him, definitely not a latifolia. The leaves are very small. They are the exact same size as one of the pottsii's he sent me. A lot of the other ones I have ordered from him seem to be correct, if judging by the leaf......I know that can be trouble.

Heather that's interesting about the latifolia and it having a small leaf. I also have one labeled as latifolia and it has a small leaf. I got it from a Thailand hoya dealer. I'm in the middle of cooking loaves of Friendship Bread, but when I finish I will post a picture of mine. Can you post a picture of yours too?

Oh brother!! I will have to wait until my husband gets home from work. Probably won't be able to post anything until tomorrow. Do you think it is latifolia? Aren't they supposed to have the huge leaves? Mine looks almost like a pottsii.

I've ordered lots of plants form Bob Smoley over the years, and they are usually labeled correctly, but there have been lapses. I received a wayettii labeled as waymanii, probably just an accident, if they are arranged alphabeticaly or someone forgot to wear their glasses. Also, the carnosa 'snowball' he sells is definitely not the white flowered carnosa in question, it has large motoskei-like leaves and bright pink flowers. All the plants are of high quality though, and especially nice is his service of shipping plants IN their pots for a slight additional fee. It's definitely worth it for rooted plants, especially delicate succulents.

That's funny about the "snowball" he sells having pink flowers. I have heard of "yellow snow"...ha ha....but never PINK snow.
I have one labeled "snowball" too, but it has large white flowers. Leaves are motoskii also.

The color of the flowers might be a matter of enviornment/nutrition, too. Color is not a very good indicator of the species or the variety...

I have seen pinkish flowers on my H. motoskei, as well as white...mostly white.
