True or false...

I planted a Jarrahdale squash this year, and it produced 2 babies. One weighed about 7 pounds, the other weighed in at 16+ pounds. A friend told me not to save the seeds from the smaller squash as it would only produce runts. Is this a fact???

No, if was from the same plant, and not cross pollinated, the seeds should have the same genetic properties. A seed saver can select for size or other characteristics and get an improved cultivar. But you need to select from a plant that is exhibiting the chacteristics you are looking for. If the fruit was crossed with something else, different story.

Thank you for the clarification - these were so darned tasty, I couldn't bear the thought of not saving some to share! They had the luzury of growing along the outside of the raised bed, with only only Cosmos and Bells of Ireland sharing their space. And the rb only had tomatoes, okra, peppers, eggplant, marigolds and nasturtiums...all harmless as near as I can tell!

Thanks again!
