What is Dry White Wine

I would like to make some pickled garlic and the recipies that most appeal to me (the ones without sugar) call for dry white wine. How do I tell a dry white wine from any other? Or, if you have a recipie for pickled garlic that doesn't require wine or sugar, I'll accept that, too.
