Am I correct in understanding that Bromeliads only bloom once? Also, can the pups stay attached to the Mother Plant and still bloom or do they have to be detached first? I thought it would look rather nice to leave the Mom and Pups together to make a very nice, large plant, but I want to make sure that the Pups will bloom if they remain attached to the Mom. I am assuming that no matter what, if the Mom dies, the Pups would have to be removed. Thanks !
Bloom Once Only? Can Pups Remain Attached?
You can indeed leave the pups attached- those I use in the landscaping develop huge clumps that threaten to take over the space. As the mother dies she literally falls apart and can be removed without disturbing any of the pups. Or you can carefully cut her out as she becomes less attractive and leave all the pups and the root systems intact.
Thanks, I'll leave "mom" for now.
