Last night I was talking with Deb (hoyanut) and she mentioned she rooted a cutting I sent her in rain water. She then stated that it appeared to root faster and with a healthier root system. So I'm rooting a couple of cuttings in rain water to test her results.

Interesting observation
Well....that would be fun for all you people that actually ever get any RAIN to play with. Ha Ha
Marcy
thats for sure Marcy, I'm trying to remember when we got our last rain.
It rained here about a month ago and I collect the rain water that runs off of the greenhouse into a large barrel. Tami want me to send you a gallon or two:-)

Yippee.... Send it on up. I got a couple of rain barrels from Flagstaff a couple of years ago through there water conservation program. THey were 25.00 a barrel and really nice barrels with a drain valve and screen on top, I think they held 50 gallons. I wish I would have kept them now. Oh well darn, another trip to Flagstaff, some day. Awanda, have you checked out The Plant stand of Phoenix? They are stocking HD here now, so far have found 5" pots of H. Bella, DS-70, and of course the H. carnosa, and H. carnosa var.. They are on S 28th in Phoenix. :0 Maybe something you need to check out, may have something you don't have.
Oh kewl Tami I know where the plant stand is and have been there several times. They are wholesale, but I do have a business license. They were the first place I found and brought my ZZ plants from, long before they were in the stores. Oh I feel a road trip to Phoenix coming on. They also supply plants to the HD where I shop. My barrel holds 50 gallons also. I think I'll trade cars with hubby tomorrow and take a trip to the Plant Stand. I'll let you know if I find anything.

Awanda, are their doors open to the public? :0 if they are I am so ready for a trip to. I'll have to find a driver and take a tranqulizer. For sure let me know what you find. Be still my heart..
Well ladies it has not stopped raining here for a few day now !!! It could be snow so will not cry about it-------But did set a glass gal. jar out to try the rooting thing...Will let you know how it goes......
You can do it Tami-----I would look for a nice calm driver , slow -slow - slow........Give the driver the tranqulizer and you will be fine......Have lunch with Awanda !!!! Have fun
Tami they aren't open to the public, but since I have my business license you could always go with me:-). I'm on my way to the Plant Stand with camera in hand. If I see anything of interest, I'll take picutres and post them when I return:-). Sandy let me know how your experiment with the rain/snow water goes.

On this link, David uses nothing but rain water or melted snow water.

We have had buckets of rain for 2 weeks now. I am going over to the sunny side of the island thismorning for 2 days. This sucks. After all, it IS Paradise and I need some sun!!
Carol
LOL Sandy, she takes my valium!!! Doesn't slow her down a bit. EEE GADS snow already??? EWWWW. I'll just take some rain for now..
Awanda, hurrrrrrrry, geese shouldn't she be home by now?
David uses the rain/snow for watering his plants, but has he ever tried rooting to see if there is a difference? That was the observation that Deb made, they seem to root healthier and faster with rain water.

Awanda
I collected rain water in the summer to water the hoyas with but didn't think of trying it for rooting. Thanks for the tip....I'll have to try it. We certainly haven't had a shortage of rain here lately. At least I won't have to worry about getting mosquito larva in my bucket this time of year.
Sandy
My youngest DD lives in Phoenix & if I get out to visit her next year, I hope I'll be able to meet some of you. Maybe we can have a little get together. Would really like to see some of your hoya collections up close. I've had H. Carnosa for a long time & didn't realize there were other hoya until I found this forum. I now have a small collection started.
Jan
Hi Jan! How many hoyas do you have now?? They quickly become addictive! Is Tremont near Chicago? Karen
Jan come on over, I would love to meet you and talk hoyas:-).

Awanda
