Passiflora rooting...

Wilmington, NC

Do you use bottom heat to root your passifloras? Mine are taking *forever*!!

Wewahitchka, FL(Zone 8b)

Same here.
The last batch died before rooting.

Palmyra, VA(Zone 7a)

Most people use bottom heat, I don't cos I do not have a heating mat or cable. How long is forever? Rooting varies, I have P. incarnata rooted in 2 weeks, while P. vitifolia took 7-8 weeks.

If the leaves are green, and are hanging on after 2 weeks, you are doing fine, just wait.

Cazique,
I'm in the same boat, I lost the last three batches! My 4th batch is into the 5th day, and some are dropping leaves, not looking good.

The passiflora incarnata that I have been offering is growing all over my yard. I dig down a get a small piece of root, even 1 inch, and pput them in a pot of dirt and leave them in the sun. In 2 to 3 weeks I had roots growing out of the pot. I am fixing to start alot more rooting if anyone wants one for postage. let me know so I know how manya i need. janet

Tim,
My P. x Belotii cuttings have been in water for about 3 weeks now. They look okay so I guess I just need to be patient.

Karma,
I wouldnt typically cut it back in July, but it was beginning to cling to the shingles on my porch roof! I was excited about it, but my DH wasnt!! (I think I need to build a different trellis for this beauty) Ive got them indoors so there isnt much heat at all. I was afraid it was the air conditioning! Which is why I asked about bottom heat.

Hopefully soon, Ill post for well rooted cuttings!!

Thanks to all of you for your wonderful advice.

warmest wishes,
Nicole

3 months!?!! Oh my. Tim please... say it isnt so! (as I carry them into my garage!)

KHT... may I ask which passiflora it was?

Nicole,
I have only rooted two passiflora cuttings using water, both took place late fall, early winter. The roots were not as strong as soil rooting, and I believe they took over 2 months.

Just tried layering, guess what? it is faster. I laid a piece of vine down on top of a pot of soil and scratched the nodes where leaves come out. I covered the vine with some soil. There are little roots coming out. It's been about three weeks.
