I won some brug cuttings from Kin and I was so excited, my first brugs ever! I put them in water and have been changing their water every other day (I don't have a bubbler set up yet). Everything has been going fine, 4 of them have roots, but Maya kept getting more and more pitiful and finally tonight I had to let it go. It was nothing but mush:( I'm sorry Kin, I even tried to prop it up in the glass with toothpicks lol. I feel so guilty. I think that was the variegated one too wasn't it?
This is the first time I have ever gotten anything to root, just started gardening this year. One of them, Suaveolens White, has a bunch of roots (looks like a potato you forget about) and leaves already and the Frosty Pink looks like it is going to have a leaf soon also. I naively assumed they would do this slowly and I would just plant them this spring and enjoy.
I'm sure there is a post on here somewhere that tells newbies what to do with cuttings, but I cannot find it. Can someone please direct me to instructions or give me some pointers? I really appreciate it.
Thanks, Rachel
Please help me avoid becoming a serial killer
Rachel,
I have mine in a bubbler, and I lost Maya too. I kept trimming off the mushy parts until I realized it was all the way up to the top.
All the rest have rooted well and I plan to pot them tomorrow. I have a few with new leaves too!
I read somewhere (and I have read everything I can get my peepers on, lol!) that Maya can be difficult, so I chalked it up to my inexperience.
Considering this is our first efforts, I'm pretty happy with 4 out of 5! And I'm soo glad Kin gave us the chance to try!!
I'll dmail you with a couple of links that were sent to me or I found.

Thank you Gayle! I'm sorry you lost your Maya also, that makes me feel like less of a murderer though. It sounds more like suicide now haha. I will go check your links out now, thank you so much for sending those to me!
Rachel
Would you send me the links also? I bought 6 cuttings off ebay last week . haven't come yet .
Oh I am so sorry you both lost Maya. Maya tends to be difficult rooting. Don't feel bad because many have not had much luck rooting her. I have done many cuttings of Maya and lose some for no reason. So don't feel bad.
Like you said 4 out of 5 is a good start for newbie brugies!!! LOL Best of luck too you and it's been a pleasure sharing them with you.
Kin
Kin sent me some Maya and the one getting the most nubbies (in water) is the really woody log cutting. Although the green ones are getting a few nubbies too.
I did try a "bubbler" with some cuttings but it seems to me that they root just as well for me without the bubbles.
