CLOSED: Kalanchoe offspring

Eau Claire, WI(Zone 4a)

Hello!

I have some buds, pups, babies or whatever you call them from several Kalanchoe plants. The varieties are fedtschenkoi, tubiflora, daigremontiana and marmorate. The majority are from a big mama daigremontiana plant. I'm going to let these plants go dormant so there probably won't be many more of these children until spring, which is sometime in July here in Wisconsin. : )

I would guess that there will be over 100 of these little fellers. I'll bag them by variety.

These can be had for postage or trade for whatever you may have that is interesting or (especially) weird.

Later!

Okay I have to ask a question. I have just been cutting off stems and rooting them in water. What are these babies you're talking about? My mother must be barren.

I would love them for postage..

The babies or pups or whatever people call them are little plantlets that form on the edge of the leaves on some of the Kalanchoes. They drop to the ground and start to grow and very soon produce little plantlets on their leaves. Fascinating to watch! Not all of the Kalanchoes reproduce in this manner.

Well alrighty then! There were three of you who responded to this post. (one off-line) so there might not be as many plantlets as I originally stated. There should be enough to start your own jungle tho.

All of the plantlets are boxed up and ready to mail in the morning. I didn't have enough K. fedtschenkoi babies, so I am sending a cutting from the mother plant instead. It should have developed a callous by the time you receive it, so just lay it in a pot of whatever soil that you use & water it once in a while. It will eventually produce some plantlets around the edge of the cutting.

I don't want to mess with the postage thing, so just consider this a freebie. It seems rather dumb to spend 37 cents to send a 65 cent stamp to someone who doesn't know what to do with a 65 cent stamp. If you want to send me some seeds or cuttings or whatever, that's fine. At least, keep me posted as to how these little fellers fare in your part of the world.

Regards,
