What a stunning salvia photo you have htop. Luv the colour. Wish I could grow something like that, but we have already had frost at least a dozen times.

Thanks. I was so happy I found this variety to photograph because the color of the bloom is very stunning. I don't have one of the plants myself; but, I sure wish I did. I am sorry that it isn't hardy there so that you could enjoy it in person.

What an intense color, indeed! Thank you for the picture!!

Broots, you might grow one in a container, then take it indoors overnights then put back outside to extend the season?

Joseph, do you think that would work for me? It wouldn't lose it's blooms from the coming in to a warm house & then back outside, or do you think it would be better just coming in to the sunroom overnight(it isn't heated, yet) & then back outside? I have never bothered with bringing plants in overnight except in the spring, but there are so many great fall sages that I am very envious when I see them on the forums....Linda

I brought in a Salvia discolor, and it was in a smallish container for a month or so, and just as the cold weather was setting in here, it was producing all sorts of flower buds. I couldn't bear seeing it die outside and not see its flowers, so I brought it in to our heated sunroom. Not one calyx fell off, and just last night one awesome black flower peeked out of the grey coloured calyx. I also had good luck with S. blepharophylla 'Diablo', it is flowering its head off.

Why not try one out that doesn't get to be a mountain in shape and size and see what happens?

Joseph, you have convinced me to give it a try next year. Would love to see photos of your S. blepharophylla 'Diablo' if you have some. Have a good day. I'm off to shovel lots of snow.

Linda
