Rat Terriers

I am readying for adopting a new member to my family. I absolutely love the "look" of a Rat Terrier, but have never known anyone that had one. Can anyone help with their temperment? I have read they are active, but are they people dogs?, like to have brothers and sister kind of dogs? easily trained? (I used to have a Basenji, so I am very familiar with "not easily trained;-).
