Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

i have noticed some variegation on a CreamSickle x RosaMond seedling
but only on one side of the plant - 4 leaves so far
not all the leaves are variegated
sooooooooooo
what causes a plant to start having variegation ?

Fruitport, MI(Zone 5a)

I like it. What variety is it? A couple of the leaves has variegation similar to snowbank.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Very pretty, Dick. I hope someone can answer your question.

Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

so do i Ada :-)
i will let it grow a side branch on that side :-)
sports always come off the side of a plant ? right ?
Kathy it is a Creamsickle x Rosamond seedling
MG did i send you some of these CSxRM seed ?
Dick

Very interesting to see that.
I don't know why only one side would do that either. Since it is a seedling maybe next year it will show the variegation on the entire plant. Or then maybe not.
This should be a good one to keep photos and notes on. I will be keeping an eye on this ones progress!! Have fun.

YES, you did! And that's the next group I'm going to start. I believe it's another cross by Kell. Oh, I am so excited.

Very interesting. Please keep us posted as it grows.

Ozark, AL(Zone 8b)

oh wow oh wow!! You might just have one there!! It looks like true variegation, not just a passing problem!
A "sport" or "Chimera" is a branch or side shoot whose genes differ somewhat from those of the parent plant. In the case of variegation, the cells of the sport which carry chlorophyll and the resulting green pigmentation are not "properly" developed. Left alone, the "normal" branches will usually outnumber and overwhelm this weaker one, and the entire plant will revert to green. Plants like to fit in with their peers ;)

Got all that, Dick? Way too sicentific for me! Looks cool, let's hope it stays that way! :)

Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

thanks for the encouraging words from everybody
here are some close-ups to show the nice colors
& a 2nd node showing variegation :-)

This is so exciting, Dick. What fun!! Please keep us updated. I can't wait for the flowers. I am so hoping for a double orange like Creamsickle.

Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

Kell
dbl orange ?
that would be like wining the LOTTO :-)

Dick

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Think big! LOL. I got a beautiful double orange from a Creamsickle cross. My only problem is it is in a 2 gallon pot so it didn't grow much or flower much, it needs to be repotted. But I thought all this thru too late so I decided to let it stay in its little pot over winter.

So you can too!!! The prettiest brug I have ever laid my eyes on was a double pink on a great variegated brug. For the life of me I can't remember the name. Anyone know? Ludger had it as I recall. I fell in love. It made all others look so boring. Now Dick, if you get one like that, I am your best friend forever more. LOL

That's right, Dick. Talk sweet to that plant. We'd love to see you get a double pink Variegated Brug.

Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

Ada
it is in a 4" pot now, only about 6" tall & has a long ways to go
it will be a minimum of a year before i know what the flower will be
but if it does become a variegated dbl pink
you can be sure i will see to it you & the rest of my friends get a cutting :-)

Dick

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Dick. So does that mean I get the first cutting after Kristi?

I will sell it on eBay and get to retire! LOL

Oh we crossed posted Dick. You now have us all praying for it. LOL
