She loves big cats (especially cheetahs and leopards), and wolves. Pretty much any exotic animal. And anything having to do with Egypt, in case you just happen to have a post card with a mummy on it. LOL Dolphins and whales too and any flower. Even the standard "big city skyline" postcard would be exciting to her.

Thank you all so much!

Maben, MS(Zone 7b)

I will get her one in the mail tomorrow.

A few years ago I was flying home from a visit and noticed that the moon was hidden from view by clouds. My 4 year old nieces loved the moon, so I wrote this little poem for them with the scenario that I had stolen the moon (since they couldn't see it) If you send me the names of 10 of Satori's relatives or friends I'll rewrite the poem with their names in it and mail it to her.

WHO STOLE THE MOON FROM THE DARK BLUE SKY?

I've searched high, I've search low!
I've searched fast, and very slow…

So, who stole the moon from the dark blue sky?
Who stole the moon? I want to know why!

Could it have been Becca? I don't think so!
Could it have been Alyson? She said “no, no, no!”

Maybe Caryn ate it; they say it's made of cheese
Did Aunt Liz take it? Oh won't you tell me please!

David, Ron, and Lisa; all firmly they deny!
They say they didn’t take it from the dark blue sky!

Diane & Aunt Karen giggle and look sly
They think they know who took it from the dark blue sky!

They say, “Aunt Mary took it to the great west coast!
I know Aunt Mary took it – I’m sure I heard her boast!”

Aunt Mary smiled and said, “Yes, it’s really true!
I took the moon, the lovely moon, I took it far from you.”

I needed it to light my way!
I want that yellow moon to stay!
But if you smile, say please and pray,
I’ll send that moon the very next day!

To your home I’ll send its’ light so bright,
So close your eyes and say goodnight!

Thank you all so much!

Will get one out this weekend!

I know, myself, how much the kids *love* to get mail.

My 6 y.o. will often ask if she's received any mail...and the answer is most often 'no', unless it's near her birthday!
(Oh...the disappointed look!)

I'll tell my daughter about her and maybe she'll write a little note!

Wishing you both only the best.

tombaak - I have 2 teen daughters that would love to write as "Pen Pals" (I asked first). They have lots to share that would be of a 6 year olds interest. They love to share pictures of things they find on the internet or interesting sites. All of these interests or very "G" rated and I'm sure would make your DD's day if mail was sent on a regular basis. lmk if this is too much :-)

A card is on the way !! God bless her and all of you :))

Oh Mary, that is so delightful. I bet you are a great Aunty Mary!!

I love that name Satori. I have never heard it before. I bet she gets so much mail she is going to be overwhelmed with delight. I hope on the day it starts she asks you if she got any mail before you show her. What a fun shock for her. LOL

A card is on the way to her. God bless!

Tombaak, I read your thread in another forum and shared it with my daughter Lauren who is also a lover of animals. Lauren is going to make something to send her. We'll give it a few weeks since it looks like she'll have lots of mail next week.

You are such a good Mom to ask. Best wishes to both of you.

I would like to thank you all again for the lovely cards. She has had a great time with all the mail she has gotten. Everyday now, she asks if the mail is here yet!

When I made this post, my daughter was at home getting over pneumonia and a dislocated hip. She was doing well, but, REALLY bored and my mail request was meant to be light hearted fun.

So, I feel extremely awkward about this…

Many people have D or E-Mailed me asking how she is doing. Again, I just meant this to be a light hearted distraction, for her, and anyone sending her a postcard. I have sent many of you notes to say Tori is well (which she is) but, I have been feeling very bad about that. It seems like since you have all done me the favor of sending her a card, I should be honest.

Her pneumonia is completely gone and her hip isn’t hurting her anymore, but on the follow up chest x-ray taken earlier in the week the doctors spotted something odd. They did a CT scan and we found out that she has a large tumor in her right lung. It doesn't have anything to do with her SMA, and they are thinking it probably isn't cancer, but they won't know for sure what it is until it comes out. Because the tumor is so big it needs to come out pretty much immediately and the surgery will be within the next two weeks.

This has come out of nowhere and is totally unexpected and i am still trying to wrap my brain around it. I apologize again for inadvertently getting you all involved in this.

Melissa

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Oh, Melissa, don't feel bad. We enjoyed doing this for Satori and lifting her spirit. I'm so sorry to hear about the tumor. I praying she'll recover quickly and the tumor isn't serious. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Please keep us posted and we can send Satori more cards and postcards. Hang in there and give Satori a big hug from the Dave's Gang.

OMG, Melissa, there is nothing to apologize for!!!

I, for one, am very grateful for the opportunity to bring a smile to face of someone, especially someone with the heavy load you and your daughter have.

I will keep you both in my prayers and hope that you will continue to post updates on how things are going for you both.

Donna/dstartz

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh what a shock for your family!! I know you must be so worried. My prayers are with your family and Satori. Oh Melissa, I am so sorry! May she recover fast!!

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Melissa, there is nothing to apologize for as a matter of fact she needs our support more than ever..We need to keep that smile on that beautiful face of hers. When on is ill sometimes we tend to get depressed and I am sure our little notes will make her happy..So I am sending her a little box of goodies.....

Will keep both in my prayers

First, I wanted to thank you all so much. Satori has enjoyed everything she has received in the mail so much! Now she asks “What did I get in the mail today” when it comes, instead of “Did I get any mail today.” So many of you have been so kind, we really appreciate it.

Now the icky stuff…

The surgery has been scheduled for Monday afternoon. If she comes off the ventilator well, she should only be in the ICU for a day or two and then in a regular Pediatric room for another few days. They are saying 5 days in the hospital min. She is doing well, she understands it as much as a 6 year old understands such things. We have spared her the more graphic details.

Because I posted the postcard request on a few forums, and people have asked to be updated on what is going on. I am going to start a new thread in the Parking Lot forum. That way I won’t have more than one thread to update. I’ll just title it “Surgery.” I will post a link to it (if I can figure out how LOL.)

Thank you again everyone for your kind words, thoughts, prayers and the wonderful mail,

Melissa

Thanks,

I got it done on the other thread! I think my 2 year old "helping" was as much a problem as remembering how to do it. :)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Great Melissa, I will checking that thread!
