Non-invasive elephant ears?

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

I am looking to "lush" up my garden. My first obvious thought is elephant ears, but I had some in pots and when I tried to dig them up, there were roots everywhere and they were soooo hard to get out. They were only in the pots for a few months, so I had to think what it would have been like if they had been there longer. So my question is are all varieties invasive? I have read some of the posts here and people have a terrible time getting rid of them if they decide that they don't want them.

If they are all invasive, I would be interested in suggestions for other plants that will survive in full sun in Houston. I don't want to have to dig them and need things that only get about 5-6 feet tall (or less).

Thanks for all the help.

Only a few are invasive. Colocasia esculenta and xanthosoma saggitifolium are two of the offenders and in my gardens they only spread where there is plenty of moisture. In the dry areas, they barely hang on.
I don't know of any alocasias that are invasive.
